Orienteering race 1:06:30 [4] 9.6 km (6:56 / km) +310m 5:58 / km

QOC Combat Village Blue - lovely day in excellent terrain. Turns out Don kept his courses entirely on Combat Village West, I think. Great fun in almost entirely very fast woods. Course could certainly have been more technical but it was certainly technical enough for most and probably isn't a bad thing to reintroduce the terrain to a lot of members who weren't around the last time we used it with something less than the most fiendishly hard course you could design there. I bobbled slightly a few times and no doubt did some unjustified S bends on longer legs - the GPS track will tell all - but will chalk this us as a pretty good race.

I'll have to look at RouteGadget soon - I'm a bit puzzled at how many people seem to have made very large mistakes on the second leg. Even looking at the people who didn't have disasters, I won the leg by a full minute and I have no idea how that happened - early in the course, I definitely can't run that much faster than Dave Pruden.

Orienteering 15:00 [1]

Picked up three controls very near the finish.

Orienteering 50:00 [1] 3.5 km (14:17 / km)

QOC training day at Turkey Run Ridge - late in the morning, while David Onkst took the class around a compass and pace course, I went out and hung 9 controls along the route of a just under 4km line-O on a trails-removed map. Wanting to be able to warn participants if there were any unpleasant unmapped surprises along the line, I followed the line pretty faithfully except in two short sections where it had been suggested I alter my original course design to reduce the number of stream crossings and/or take people across a stream at a more easily crossable point.

Orienteering 30:00 [1]

Map walk with the faster half, more or less, of the class around a course, with no controls hung, designed by Ted to make us think about and discuss as close to the full range of orienteering skills and techniques and how and when to apply them as he could manage in less than 2 km.

Form exercises 24:00 [4]

Some silly walks while members of my map walk group did the line-O.

Orienteering 24:00 [3]

Picking up the line-O controls.

Cycling 28:00 [3]

Cycling to work. Picked up rental car to get to PWFP tomorrow and Combat Village on Sunday so no ride home. Also no form exercises - it rained and I pretty much needed the time after work to finish up getting ready for the training at PWFP tomorrow.

To work. Home by way of PCRM work party.

Running 4:00 [1]

Warmup/cooldown.

Form exercises 20:11 [4]

Silly walks and uphill sprints.

Cycling 30:00 [3]

Home by way of the aquatic center and Safeway.

Deep Water Running 1:01:00 [4]

Listened to Geeks Guide to the Galaxy - initial interview with Lois McMaster Bujold. It seems the Vorkosigan Saga is now one book longer, though it will be chronologically a bit earlier than the last volume so I guess it will be the next one in which we read about the aftermath of Aral Vorkosigan's death.

Running 1:23:30 [2]

And jogged home through Rock Creek Park for the first time in ages. Will see whether my feet are still happy about that in the morning.
