Cycling 57:00 [3]
(injured)

Cycling to work. A night's rest has definitely helped. I still can't walk quite normally, running is out of the question and it's still uncomfortable bending and/or crouching down to pick objects up off the floor but cycling seems to be okay (once I managed to straddle the bike). I'd hazard that the walking involved in taking Metro to work would have been more problematic in terms of negative impact on healing. Straight home after work.

Orienteering race 1:22:57 [4] 11.3 km (7:20 / km)
(injured)

QOC Prince William Blue - beautiful day. Felt pretty good physically but took a hard fall on the way to control 5 and, from the feel of it, did bad things to various muscles around the right side of my pelvis. Ran somewhat gingerly from then on - felt okay on reliably smooth surfaces but my ability to handle uneven terrain was definitely compromised. Slowed me down somehat, hard to say just how much but I suspect Eddie would still have beat me by two or three minutes even if I'd avoided the fall.

Hiking 1:00:00 [1]
(injured)

Put in a bit of time surveying the surroundings of the Mount Airy Mansion near the center of the park. Having stiffened up, this was painful. I had particular difficulty lifting my right leg over any obstacle that couldn't be surmounted just lifting my foot off the ground by flexing the knee joint, i.e. if my thigh also had to be raised, there were problems. Also made normal walking difficult - I found myself using the muscles of the right foot to launch it off the ground with each forward step in order to save my hip flexors the effort of moving the whole leg.

Rosaryville

Cycling 1:25:00 [3]

Round trip to Rosaryville.

Hiking 3:10:00 [1]

Mapping in Rosaryville State Park. Covered most of the terrain along the northern edge of the park I hadn't got to last weekend.

Running 1:34:00 [2] 8.0 mi (11:45 / mi)

Run home through Rock Creek Park in the rain. Cautiously, though things weren't particularly slippery.

Cycling 1:01:00 [3]

Cycling to work. Brought the running shoes, etc. but looks like I may not need them this evening. Tomorrow, though, I'm running both ways.

Getting home was, indeed, uneventful - no sign of snow by 9:30pm when I finished riding.

Deep Water Running 2:00:00 [2]

Made it through the last few lessons of Essential Czech and then a bit of music, ending with Beethoven's Grosse Fuge, so I'll move on to the intermediate course I bought next.

Cycling 1:01:00 [3]

Cycling to work in the morning. Forecast looks as though perhaps I should have brought the necessaries for running home in the evening. Oh well.

Winter ended up underperforming so cycling home by way of the aquatic center was unneventful.

Note

Of more concern is whether it will be productive to go to Rosaryville this weekend given the mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain expected between now and overnight Friday. At a minimum, biking out there on Saturday looks like a bad bet so I guess I'd better reserve a rental car.

Deep Water Running 2:00:00 [2]

Another long easy pool running session - got through the end of lesson 7 of the Basic Czech course and not quite the first half of The Rite of Spring.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

Cycling to work by way of the aquatic center. Directly home in the evening.

Deep Water Running 1:26:00 [2]

Finally took my new waterproof MP3 player for its inaugural visit to the pool. Since I've been slack the last several weeks, I went through the first three and two thirds units of the Pimsleur Basic Czech course again. Worked nicely though I wish I hadn't had to raise the volume quite as high as I had to so I could hear it over the Steve Harvey morning show - he seems even more annoyingly loud when you're trying to listen to something else.
