Cycling 1:35:00 [3]

Non-Metro portions of gettting from home to Lake Fairfax and back, partly on the W&OD Trail.

Orienteering race 11:32 [5] 2.5 km (4:37 / km)

Lake Fairfax short sprint - did this first since I wanted to let the new map unfold over the course of the three races and be fresher for the shorter ones. This one was almost entirely wide open.

Orienteering race 15:17 [5] 3.3 km (4:38 / km)

Lake Fairfax medium sprint - one control in the woods and otherwise just slightly harder navigationally than the short sprint but still mostly wide open. Didn't see the corridor of rough open just beyond 7 that was the logical route to 8 - gaah!

Orienteering race 24:20 [5] 4.8 km (5:04 / km)

Lake Fairfax long sprint - this one had a significant amount of time in the woods though almost entirely on trails. Had taken a longer rest between medium and this than I did between short and medium, which definitely helped with keeping the effort level high. Though not quite as intense as the first two, noticeably above usual O race intensity, hence the 5. One bit of puzzlement on the way to control 3 where a trail and a small stream/wet ditch managed not to be on the map. A fun day of racing and a lovely rest in the warmth and meal afterwards - I hope we are allowed back in future.

Cycling 55:00 [3]

Cycling partway to David Onkst's (Metro the rest since I lay in bed too long) and all the way home.

Orienteering 1:03:30 [4]

Vetting part of one of the US Champs WRE courses.

Cycling 1:14:00 [3]

Cycling to work by way of the aquatic center. Also home by way of TPSS and the aquatic center.

Deep Water Running 40:00 [4]

Nothing but deep water running this workout.

Swimming 1:00:00 [3]

Almost all kicking sans and then with and then sans fins. I wonder how long I could keep this up before muscular fatigue set in. Probably longer than my boredom threshhold would permit.

Running 1:19:57 [2] 8.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Vasque Grey Pair #1

Run to work through Rock Creek Park. From the tracks in the snow, a group of mountain bikers had clearly been on the trails early in the run - good thing for them they quit before the Valley Trail turns truly rough. Having now done ~ 2 hour runs home both with and without my newish socks that have compartments for each toe, it seems pretty clear they do prevent blisters. Time to order some more.

Cycling 40:00 [3]

Cycling home by way of PCRM volunteer night. Scale says I'm still hovering between 165 and 166, which I won't bother converting to Gs.

Cycling 36:00 [3]

Cycling to work with slightly more than an inch of powdery snow on the sidewalks. Less cold and, probably more significantly, less windy.

Running 2:08:00 [2] 12.0 mi (10:40 / mi)
shoes: Vasque Grey Pair #1

Run home through a Rock Creek Park dusted with snow. Most trails had seen some feet but I did find one section that appeared to have been used only by a pair of foxes since the snow fell yesterday.

Cycling 1:09:00 [3]

In to work. Still very cold for DC - wind chill at noon still -14 Celsius and it was at least a few degrees colder in the morning. Home by way of TPSS and the aquatic center.

Swimming 38:00 [3]

Warmup and later to break up the monotony of running. Almost all flutter kicking sans fins.

Deep Water Running 1:01:00 [3]

35 minutes aftter the warmup and then to the end of the workout after the flutter kicking break.

Cycling 38:00 [3]

Home from work by way of TPSS - way cold for DC, pretty but not extremely cold even by Canadian standards with the wind chill.
