Cycling 32:00 [3]

Bike to work with PT session along the way. Very lightly loaded so felt fast despite a short night's sleep after getting back from the Pig late.

Cycling 10:00 [4]

Stationary bicycle during physiotherapy.

Stair climbing 5:00 [2]

PT session.

Backwards Treadmill 5:00 [1]

PT session.

Cycling 40:00 [3]

Cycling home with grocery shopping on the way.

Running 8:00 [2]

Warmup and cooldown.

Form exercises 27:00 [4]

Silly walks and uphill bounding - tried to do strides but I, like Swampfox, was getting soaked by a thunderstorm and strides just weren't a good idea on wet, uneven grass while wearing glasses in poor light with occasional flashes of lighting.

Core exercises 8:00 [4]

These while watching Prison Break.

Strength 10:00 [2]

And single-legged squats and calf raises while watching 24. Looking forward to Jack, Chloe, Audrey and Wayne versus the whole apparatus of the US military and law enforcement.

Orienteering race 1:15:05 [4] 9.8 km (7:40 / km) +360m 6:28 / km

Pig Classic - an okay race technically but not feeling quite as good physically as on Saturday plus it was difficult to run aggressively through all the flat light and medium green areas that the courses required one to traverse. I was nowhere near as exhausted at the finish as would usually be the case. Various GHO runners and the Duke were impressive as usual (for the weekend overall if not for this race - I left without seeing full results) - I'm going to have to pour on the intensity in training now that I can run again to have a chance of competing. The good news is that my quad feels no worse after a weekend of orienteering so it looks as though I am back in the training business. A good thing with Round 1 of the World Cup in just over a month and the Canadian Trials in two.

Orienteering race 16:55 [5] 2.9 km (5:50 / km) +100m 4:59 / km

Pig Sprint - a good race until I overran 11 and lost about a minute and a half.

Orienteering race 38:23 [4]

US Relay Champs first leg - best race of the weekend despite medium-sized mistakes on 4 and 6 and a definitely non-optimal route choice to 4 now that I consider the options more fully. Opened up approximately 2 minutes on Hans doing 7 through 9 and held it for the rest of the course. Since we separated on the way to 7, I didn't know where I stood coming through the spectator control until Vlad's announcing caught up with events - once I heard him, I focused on avoiding errors through the short loop to the handoff. Pia extended the lead over GHO substantially but Swampfox suffered a recurrence of the mysterious cramping that afflicted him at the Long Champs in the fall and had to retire perhaps a third of the way through the third leg. Too bad - it would have added some excitement if Mark Adams and Mike Waddington had had someone to try and chase down. Wil had to wait for the fourth leg mass start to run.

Ted Good had one of his better races of the weekend (sprint wasn't bad either, I believe) to bridge a big gap on the anchor leg and win QOC the bronze in the 4 point category.

Orienteering race 37:45 [4] 5.4 km (6:59 / km) +220m 5:48 / km

Pig Middle Distance - a clean race except for minor hesitations (and one lazily overly climb-avoiding route choice) but I felt sluggish. Probably the longish drive and the month with only one running session outside of the pool should be blamed for that. A satisfactory result under the circumstances.

Cycling 32:00 [3]

Ride to work by way of physiotherapy. Have decided to cease marking myself as injured even though I'm not quite 100%.

Cycling 10:00 [4]

On the stationary bicycle as part of PT.

Backwards Treadmill 5:00 [1]

PT session.

Stair climbing 5:00 [2]

PT session.

Note

Potomac News says the wildfire was completely contained as of 11:30 am yesterday. Will still have to go look at the damage or enhancement to the terrain that resulted.

Cycling 15:00 [3]

Unplanned bike ride to Dave Onkst's. I was going to take a bus but it must have been at least 3 or 4 minutes ahead of schedule and it was the last bus of the evening on that route. Couldn't get a cab and everyone else was late to Dave's as well so it seemed simplest just to head back to work and bike from there.

Cycling 32:00 [3]
(injured)

Bike in with break for physiotherapy session on the way.

Cycling 10:00 [3]
(injured)

On the stationary bike during PT - started with seat at 6 and dropped it to 1 after three minutes. Today, they were in the mood to supervise me again.

Stair climbing 5:00 [3]
(injured)

PT session.

Backwards Treadmill 5:00 [1]
(injured)

PT session.

Note

Would you believe that, having spent 7.5 hours on Saturday and Sunday walking around the north half of the Mawavi-Happylands map to assess the current state of the terrain, a wildfire goes and breaks out on Monday afternoon? The NPS thinks they've just about got it contained at 300 acres. On the plus side, the map in their press release shows the fire burning the part of the map with the thickest and most unpleasant undergrowth so the effect may well be to improve orienteering conditions. And it will be kind of interesting to see the before and after of a wildfire.

Cycling 42:00 [3]

Cycling home with grocery shopping en route.

Core exercises 8:00 [4]

Usual core exercises.

Cycling 32:00 [3]
(injured)

Cycling in with a pile of O clothes in addition to the usual (getting things pre-positioned for departure to Flying Pig).

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]
(injured)

To Union Station and home again. This time they had CA$ money orders though at the usual extortionate rate - my fault for not making time to buy a money order to cover my OOC membership last time I was in Canada.
