I was feeling very bad for this race! Note: it is not a good idea to have some beverages the night before a half marathon! The race started at 5:00 am. and I started out sluggish and I felt slow. I tried to pick-up my pace, but it was difficult and I seemed to be working way to hard early on to maintain a respectable pace. I took a gel at the 10 km. mark, but it didn't really seem to help. It got even more difficult when the race course went onto the beach at the 13.5 km. mark. It was even more difficult to run in the somewhat hard packed sand next to the waters edge. I took another gel at the 16 km. mark and tried to push on in difficulty. Finally I got off the beach around the 19.9 km. mark. Running on the beach for 3.9 km. late in the race was too much! It was nice running the last 1.2 km. on hard ground. I placed 25/673 overall and 9/192 in the 30-39 age group.
