Running race 2:31:55 [5] 25.0 km (6:05 / km) +600m 5:26 / km
shoes: New Balance All Terrain 481 20

The race started at 6:30 am. and I started off quite fast, as I wanted to separate myself from the pack. I was feeling strong and I was confident that I could have a good run. The first 10 km. of the course was quite easy with not much climbing. There was a gradual incline around the 10 km. where I took the opportunity to take a gel. I did well getting through the technical rocky section of the course until I was descending and I lost track of the flagging tape as I was focussing on my feet to make sure that I did not fall. I ended up being on a parallel higher trail and I hit some bushes with nowhere to go. I backtracked about 100 meters and I found the flagging tape and the correct route. I ended up loosing 2-3 minutes. I continued along and tried to "make-up" the lost time. I caught and passed two runners who I think passed me when I went the wrong way. I took another gel at the 15 km. mark. Then there were some hills to contend with that I walked up as I was feeling really tired at this point. I took a final gel at the 20 km. mark and I made a push for the finish. I placed 13/904 overall and 6/240 in the 30-39 age group.

Warm-up.

Running race 48:32 [5] 11.55 km (4:12 / km) +18m 4:10 / km
shoes: Nike Zoom Elite 8 2015

The race started at 6:00 am. and the huge mass of runners made their way down the road. Of all the races that I have been in this race seems to have the most start line sprinters. There are many fast Kenyan, international and Thai runners, but there are also many people that just run fast for a short distance at the start. This makes it very easy to run too fast at the start. I tried to hold back somewhat off the start, so I didn't suffer later in the race. I was feeling good and strong as the kilometers went by. I think I got stronger as the race went on, as the got closer to the finish line I picked-up my pace and crossed the finish line strong! I placed 81/5,474 overall and 6/315 in the 30-34 age group. The 5th place trophy winner ran 40:17.1.
