What and amazingly fun race! The race started at 6:30 am. and I started out quite fast to try to create a gap from some of the other runners before the single track section. I even briefly took the lead for about 400 meters! I felt strong and up for the challenge to tackle 25 km. of trail. The race was back to running in a counter clockwise direction after running in a clockwise direction for 2 years (2017 and 2018). In the first 10 km. there were some steep hills, which I walked up to save my legs for later in the race. Unfortunately I took a bad fall going down the first rocky section of trail around the 7 km. mark. I think I tripped on a loop branch across the trail. I fell down very fast on both hands and knees and my right hip. My right hand/arm and left knee took the worst of the rocks and brambles. On top of that my watch brock off and I had to put it in my Camelback for the rest of the race. When I was down another runner passed me and he did not say anything! About 1 km. after the fall another runner approached and told me "you probably know this, but you are bleeding". At the time I did not know that I was bleeding! Luckily it was not bad (some on my right arm and knees). I continued along up the two steepest hills on the course. After this I knew that it was relative easy! I picked many runners off in the technical downhill section and I felt stronger as the km.'s passed by. At 8 km. I was in 10th overall and 4th in the 30-39 age group, at 11 km. I was in 11th overall and 5th in the 30-39 age group. I crossed the finish in 5/880 overall and 3/227 in the 30-39 age group and I took home a trophy! Happy with this result!
