The hardest 10.5 km. that I have done in my life! The course was flat for about the first 3 km. and then it was mostly up for the next km., followed by rolling hills for the next few kilometers. After that there was a long downhill section and then the same flat part along the ocean as the start of the race. Hot, hilly and out of shape = a terrible time! Placed 87/1,022 in the 20-39 age group and 89/3,159 overall.

The race started off with a rolling start, feet first jump and a 750 meter swim in the Chaopraya River. Right when I jumped in I could feel the strong current in the river due to the monsoon season and a very heavy rain overnight. I finally hit the first buoy marker in what seemed like 10 minutes (for around 200 meters). Then I turned and headed downstream and I seemed to be traveling 10 times faster with the current. I hit the second buoy and made the turn to go upstream and before I know it I was 30-40 meters downstream past the buoy. I tried to get closer to the bank where the current was not as strong. Then I struggled to the swim exit point. I was in 126th place overall at this point. I had a smooth transition in under 2:00 and then I headed out on the 27 km. bike on the elevated Borommaratchachonnari Rd. I immediately passed about 10 people who were slow to get going on the bike. I took a gel at the 11 km. mark and some water at the 17 km. mark. I was going along at a good click, but some people passed me especially after the 14 km. u-turn point at Buddhamonthon Sai 2 Rd. Probably due to having a better bike and more trained. I was using an ok rented bike with mountain bike gears. Unfortunately I could not use the highest gear because the chain was not staying in place. I finished the bike in 102nd place overall. I did the second transition in under 1:00, but it could have been faster if I remembered to take off my helmet. When I started the 5 km. run my legs felt like rubber. I continued along passing many people on the 3 lap run course. The route included narrow paths, many turns and 2 stair climbs (10 meters). I finished in 63rd/187 place overall and 26th/63 in the 30-39 age group.
