It was a beautiful morning for a race with the temperature at a cool 22°C. There was a chill in the air as the race started at 5:30 am.! I started off at what I thought was a comfortable pace. By the 1 km. I found myself settled into 6th place overall. As the km.'s ticked by in the darkness I felt like I got into a real rhythm and the running was easy! After 10 km. I was still running alone, with only one guy in sight ahead of me. As I made my way down country roads past banana trees, temples and rice fields the sun began to rise. This meant that the temperature began to rise, but it was manageable. In an out an back section around 14 km. I noticed a fast guy approaching from behind. Around the 17.5 km. mark I passed the guy ahead of me to move into 5th overall. Then just before the 18 km. mark the guy passed me briefly. I recognized him instantly...it was the Russian in my category. I speed-up a little to match his stride. I was surprised that shortly after (maybe 100 meters) he began to drop off. Around 1 km. later I glanced back and he was nowhere to be seen! As I neared the finish line I knew that I had something in the bag. I was just not sure what! The Russian was at the finish before me. I thought "what, that is not possible. I did not see him pass me." He ended up being in the marathon, which had a slightly different course at the end and he placed 1st overall. I ended up in 5/439 overall and 3rd place in the 16-29 age category. I took home another trophy (my 19th in Asia).

This was the closest race that I have ever run from where I live in Bangkok. The race started out quite fast with many fast runners. I ran a strong race and I was happy with my performance. I placed 9th overall and 2nd in the 20-29 age category.

A different race at Lumpini Park (the largest public park in downtown Bangkok). All the runners were given a Santa hat, Santa cloak and a Santa belt to wear for the race. At the start line I noticed that there was one other runner that looked fast. I knew that he would be my competition. After the race started it was clear that it was me vs. him. However, around 500 meters after the race started he began to pull away from me. I crossed the line in 2nd place overall.
