Finally after all the years of trying to run in the IAAF Gold Label Standard Charterd Hong Kong Marathon I finally got in. My 4th Standard Chartered Marathon (Bangkok- 2012, 2014, Singapore- 2012, Kuala Lumpur- 2013, Nairobi- 2016). The race started bright and early at 6:10 am. and headed north on Nathan Rd. while it was still dark. I started out at a comfortable pace running with the masses on the crowded road. I hit the 10 km. mark in 48:47, which was a little slower then projected. I took a gel at the 10 km. and 15 km. marks. After some inclines going over bridges, I passed the halfway point in 1:44:08. I took another gel at the 25 km, mark. At the 28 km. mark I had to take my first walking break for about 1 minute. I took another gel at the 30 km. mark. I then needed to take a longer walking break just before the 35 km. while going through the stuffy Western Harbour Tunnel and I took a final gel. Just before 37 km. I officially "hit the wall" and most of my energy was gone, which resulting in many walking beaks and lots of people passing me. As the finish was getting closer I manager to run the last 2.195 km. I placed 1,611/4,752 overall and 255/428 in the Men's Senior (20-35) category.
