running warm up/down 30:28 [2] 3.26 km (9:21 / km) +23m 9:02 / km
ahr:166 max:222

felt absolutely awful during the warmup; my hr was super high for just jogging around and i felt like my head was floating around in the clouds. i guess run around in the rain all weekend is not good for head colds. decided to give it my best shot though since at jwoc i could feel just as yucky and i'd have to deal with it.

orienteering 59:57 [4] 8.73 km (6:52 / km) +109m 6:28 / km
ahr:179 max:195

ouf! i felt like i was running as fast as my little legs could go, but i still felt like i wasn't advancing at all. the terrain was most similar to the jwoc long terrain and it's quite trickier than i anticipated. it's like my compass nightmare!! all the rocky depressions were extremely dangerous to cross because of the wet boulders everywhere so for most of my route choices i chose to go around. it kind of felt like bumper cars because i would run around one depression, lose my initial bearing, and then bounce of another depression to get back onto my line. a bit frustrated with all the zigzagging so i'm glad i'll get some more practice in may. lea caught me by 6min at control 11 (oopsies on mixing up the depressions but i was exhausted) and so we leap frogged the rest of the course. turns out that she skipped control 8 though which is comforting because i didn't think that i had made 6min of mistake by then! happy to have somebody to run with though since it's been 1 month of competitions where I always started before everyone and saw no one! i had forgotten what it was like to see other people during a race :P

running warm up/down 35:00 [1]

orienteering 25:25 [4]

middle distance and super cool terrain! reminded me a lot of last year's woc terrain actually. i didn't make any major mistakes the whole course, but i was never really able to find the flow either which i'm a bit disappointed about. i always had to stop/hesitate along a route choice... although maybe it's better that I did that rather than run off in any direction and get really lost. i'm not sure of the official results but i think i may have the best time for the women, and it ranged right up to 40min. so overall happy but still feeling like i need some work.

up, up, up and awaayyy!! biked the first 10min to get to the university, and then ran the rest of the way up. the whole way my garmin never found satellites, but I was hoping that once I got to the top that it would be easier.
20min of running around to various high points and still no satellites. poops! gave up and ran the course with no gps date :( should i be concerned that my garmin wasn't able to locate itself?

a little course that olivier drew for me that went along the side of the hill through all of the technical stuff. goal was to choose my route before leaving the control and then to really execute it. was really clean the whole time and i only had a little doubts going to control 15. hopefully i'll be able to feel the same confidence this weekend :)

running intervals 50:05 [4] 8.2 km (6:07 / km) +251m 5:18 / km
ahr:170 max:201

pyramid that mostly seemed to always be uphill despite the fact that i tried to go somewhere flattish. ran 10min warmup and then 1' 2' 3' 4' and back down with the rest being half of each interval. felt pretty awful the whole time but felt like i was making some progress anyways :)
also added on 5 30" sprints at the end just for fun. foot was a bit sore but i think that's mostly due to olivier massaging the crap out of it this morning. more tennis ball rolling and hot baths tonight though!

I'm calling false map on this one. The zone around control 1 was a bit whacky with extra walls and there were big cut lines everywhere, but I lost time mostly because I wasn't being careful with my attack.
Everything was going great until I got to control 5 and it all went a bit haywire. First I hit the single tree, from there I could see the first rootstock but the second one is nowhere in sight. I ran a little ways but nothing at all, so I ran back to the single tree to try again. "This rootstock doesn't exist!!!!! so what did they put the control on?" Finally found the control waaay far away from where I thought it should be and from my gps track you can see that where I punched is not at the actual rootstock marked on the map. lost a good 3min there :'(
the rest of the course went dandy though, but still felt bummed at the end.
Not a great weekend for me and my feet are dying... but next weekend is in la Jura which should be fabuuuuulous!
