The Sunday part of the rogaine. Much slower pace, mostly night-fog navigation, broke my compass when I took a faceplant in a nettle patch, and generally harder. Still, loads of fun in a great area with a wonderful map and fine companion. Progressively more difficult to walk hard. Nonetheless, our speedier pace Saturday meant that we had punched all the controls we had on our planned route (and added a couple along the way), but still arrived at the hash house with nearly 3 hr to spare. After two breakfasts each, we tacked on the only control within striking distance of HQ that didn't require any real climb, and slowly hobbled there and back, and still hung up our shoes well under time. Good thing - without that control we would have tied for third, and so took 2nd instead in veteran men (1450pt). At our inn, collapsed at 2PM woke briefly at 7, and got up to go home at 4 that morning - 14 hr sleep, and still needed a nap on the way home. No serious injuries to either of us, no animal encounters (saw some porcupine quills, no bear, no deer). Remarkably, the control placement and terrain made almost the whole course off-trail, which was really fun (though tiring and harder going). Not bad for a first rogaine!
