Orienteering 1:29:58 [3] 5.4 mi (16:40 / mi) +152m 15:19 / mi

I'm traveling out to Ft. Collins and Omaha to see my kids for the holidays, and was so happy to see that the Possum Trot was on the way and at the right time this year! I had originally signed up for the Full Trot, but when my plans changed and I had to drive to Ft. Collins afterwards instead of Omaha, I dropped down to the Half Trot. I wanted to get on the road as early as possible for the 9 hour drive.

This race was so much fun. It was just good to be out orienteering, even if it was quite cold! And it was good to see some of my O-buddies. I stayed with Brooke, JP, and Charlie S. at an Airbnb in Independence, MO, which was perfect. And I got to see a buffalo!

The race went well. I got too hot on the way to #2, so I shed a jacket and gloves and left them at #1, which I passed on the way to #4. I don't think I've run a race with a skip before, so I made sure to plan that very early and I must have chosen well because several other people skipped the same control.

I finished in a fine time, had a bowl of chili, said goodbye and hit the road. The drive was not as bad as I had imagined. I wasn't sore...just a little dirty and bloody...the MO woods got me!

Note

Outside my basement window. Poor photo quality because I had to act fast! And then my sister let me know that she read in the local paper that there's a pack of coyotes in the woods behind my house. Yikes!

Coming out of work last night, I thought I heard 5 gunshots, but I wasn't sure. Now I realize they *were* gunshots. Yikes!
