Note

After the brick, I hopped in my car and drove to Laramie to vet some controls for the Rocky Mt. O-Fest. It was a spectacular day...nice enough to even get the politicians outside.

Note

After the visit from our not-so-favorite politician, we headed over to the Snowy Range to see what the last of the snow looked like. Man, there is still a lot of snow over there! Enough to probably hide a passle of snow snakes.

Cycling 37:25 [4] 8.65 mi (13.9 mph) +178m

This was a very busy day! It began with a brick with the tri training team. This was a pretty hilly route, getting up to 31 mph on one downhill! And, showing again that this is the strongest of the three events for me, I led the pack the whole way around! We were even on the flats, but I pulled away on the uphills.

Running 23:42 [4] 2.0 mi (11:51 / mi)

Then the running part. We had to come in from the cycle, quickly change to running shoes, and take off. Man, my legs were wobbly. This was really good training because it's definitely different from just starting from my house to run 3.1 miles. We'll be doing bricks almost every Saturday from now until the race, so I can only get better.

Orienteering 2:00:00 [3]

And then it was off to Laramie Range for some vetting of Blue controls. I found the streamers in exactly all of the right places, so that was encouraging.

The O-Fest is going to be so much fun! If you're not signed up yet, you'd better get moving!!

Running race 11:14 [5]

Tonight was a very mini tri race at the home of the founder of Colorado Wild Women, Celeste Callahan. Her house was incredible! She had a lap pool in her backyard and another one in the basement. Easily a $1M+ house. And she is a World Champion age grouper in triathlon. She's 74 and is going back this year to the World Champs, in the Olympic distance. Quite inspirational.

The race was 2 laps in her pool (~80m), bike around the block (~1 mile), and run to the end of the block and back (~ .3 mile), plus two transitions. It was a "guess your time" race, and I came in third. I guessed 12:17 and did it in 11:14. This was a lot of fun!

Running 38:56 intensity: (15:30 @3) + (23:26 @4) 3.1 mi (12:34 / mi) +40m 12:04 / mi

Not such a great "run." Too much walking, but after a day of upset stomach and little eating, I guess I shouldn't have expected to feel fabulous.

I did this run while the tri team did the first session of open water swimming at Bear Creek Lake. My wetsuit hasn't arrived yet; I would have gone in with just my swimsuit, but at 55˚, I thought it was better to go for a run.

Swimming 30:00 [3]

Went to my gym in the morning for some swimming. I did a few warm up laps and then swam the race distance. I was 3 minutes faster than when I did it on May 1. My time was 20:43 and I'm aiming for 20 minutes in the race, so almost there. I realized that one of my bad habits is that I don't use my legs as much as I should, so in today's workout, I focused on kicking. You have to breath a lot more when you're kicking.
