Cycling 59:43 [3]

A few laps around Wash Park, which was full of Denverites enjoying the outdoors. This ride got a little bit of a bumpy start. I got all ready and got on my bike to ride to the park. I was having difficulty locking in my cleats, though. I rolled through the intersection near my house, almost running into a pedestrian because I wasn't paying attention. I kept looking down at my feet, trying to click in, but it wasn't happening...with either shoe. Finally I stopped, flipped the pedals a few times, felt my cleats to see if they were gummed up with something, tried clicking in again...WTF?? Finally, it hit me...I had put on my old biking shoes which have a completely different kind of cleat. I had to laugh at myself...how silly. Rode back home, changed shoes, and was off for an enjoyable ride.

Orienteering race 2:04:18 [4] 10.4 km (11:57 / km)

Classic course at Round Mt.

I had signed up for Red before I knew it was 10.4k! I almost dropped down to Green, thinking I couldn't finish the Red course, but in the end decided to stick with it and if it proved to be too much, I would just walk it in.

Well, not only did I do the whole thing, I actually felt really good! I was moving quickly the whole time (mix of running and fast walking) and my navigation was dead on for almost all of the controls. I was a little left (again!) on one control, but quickly relocated, and then I got to the cliff that was another control, but didn't see a control. I was sure I was in the right spot, and luckily I looked up and saw the control on the TOP of the cliff. Who puts a control on top of a cliff?!?

Other than those two, everything went great. I was really happy I stuck with Red. The only bad thing was that I re-crunched my ankle towards the end of the course, and now it's all swollen again. I need to be a little more careful.
