Note

Traveling home after a very nice extended weekend trip, starting to feel good about life again, and then external forces decided to intervene. My car and I were totally smashed on I-25 south, just about 10 minutes from getting home. I was just able to stop without hitting the SUV in front of me that had stopped suddenly, but the giant GMC utility truck behind me was not as talented and slammed right into me, smashing the back 1/4 of my car to smithereens. That, in turn, pushed me into the SUV in front of me after all, making my hood look like an accordion. The SUV was also pushed into the car in front of it, which shows the force the truck carried with it.

I ended up going to the hospital because I became dizzy, nauseous, and clammy while waiting in my car, but I think that was mostly due to seeing my hand split open and the pad of my palm just flapping in the wind. I pushed it back down, covered it in napkins and applied pressure until the ambulance arrived.

So, 7 hours, 11 stitches, and multiple X-rays later, I'm home, waiting for my personal nurse to arrive from Laramie. My life needs to take a turn for the good pretty soon!

Hiking 4:15:00 intensity: (3:00:00 @2) + (1:15:00 @3) 7.0 mi (36:26 / mi)

A beautiful hike with a fair amount of climb and coming back down. My knees were good...just a little dicey on the coming back down part.

Running 54:00 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (44:00 @3)

That's right...running. An evening trail run, and I felt so good after an initial walking warm-up, that I thought I would try running some. And it worked! I'm experimenting with taking steps with a much shorter stride and quicker turnover, and it seems to put less stress on my knees and therefore, less pain. I'll see what they feel like in the morning.
