PT 30:00 [2]

My therapist wasn't quite as excited about my new running ability as I was. The session went from her telling me that I shouldn't run at all to her finally agreeing that it was okay for me to run a Green course, occasionally, but don't run the whole thing.

So you're telling me there's a chance!

Orienteering race 1:01:00 [3] 3.6 km (16:57 / km)

Middle Race at US Champs in Chattahoochee Bend State Park. F50 on Green Y.

My knees (and rest of body) was shot from the Long race on Saturday, so there was next to no running today. I was still so happy with the running from Saturday, so I couldn't feel too badly about being so sore today. And it's not just my knees...it's from being way too out of shape and having too many pounds on my body. Have to work on both of those now that there is a glimmer of hope.

The navigation today went very well, except for #15. I pretty much hit everything right on, with a little hesitation going into #6. I came down the broad reentrant from #5, and had to keep convincing myself to keep curving around to get to 6. I still look at the way the rock features are mapped on that hillside and wonder what the hell they're supposed to represent. Especially that big blob of black ink on top of a cliff to the NW of our #5. It doesn't seem like it conforms to any mapping standards I've seen before.

Well, like I said, it all went well until #15. I got distracted out of the spectator control, so happy that it was downhill, that I drifted too far to the south and found myself with the Red runners. I was definitely on the wrong side of the reentrant and had to cross over to get to my control. Sadly, the reentrant was pretty junky with boulders and thorny vines. The price I paid for not paying attention. After that, it was a slog up hill and then through the final control, watching everyone else zip by at top speed. sigh
