A half-run/half-walk expedition in Jockey Hollow. It was a perfectly splendid outing with not-too-high temps and low humidity. I think I might have overdone it a bit because I came home and iced and took Aleve, but both of my knees are screaming right now.
AOWN (kind of): I was just starting to come down the trail from the soldier's huts, when I heard someone singing. It was really loud, so loud that at first, I thought it was a concert. But as I got closer to the meadow, I could see it was one man, probably in his early 60s, sitting in a lawn chair, singing "Til There Was You." He had a really good voice, very loud, and it was obvious that he was thoroughly enjoying himself. He would clap occasionally, and as I got closer, he stood up and continued to sing. As I ran by, I sang a few words with him, he smiled, and it was over. Kind of a cool moment.
Now that I removed my bike from the nice, safe trainer to take to the beach, I'm motivated to start riding on the roads again. So, I went for a ride on the Jockey Hollow auto tour road. It felt so good to ride at the beach, and now I know why...it was so flat! The hills of NJ wiped me out today. I can see how far I have to go to get back in to shape, but at least I've taken this step now. I also think I might have to start looking at new bikes.
