Grand Loop trail. I felt really good until the 2 mile mark when I was running slightly downhill, tripped on a rock and went flying. I smashed down on my knee and then my shoulder. I immediately got a goose egg on my knee, which caused it to be a tad stiff for the rest of the run. Then, around mile 4, a blood blister under my left big toe became quite painful. But, I forged on through the adversity. It was a perfectly beautiful late afternoon.
I had another experience of scaring people on the trail. When I see that I'm running up on other people on the trail, I try to make some noise so they know I'm coming. I cough or rustle leaves or do something, but sometimes they still don't hear me. So, as I get closer I give them a gentle "hello," which usually startles them, but nothing too bad. Well, today, I think I scared the crap out of a couple on the trail. They must have been very engrossed in their walk because I had to say hello a few times as I got closer before they heard me. Then, the woman turned and jumped about 3 feet off the trail, and the man turned, jumped, and screamed like a little girl.
I felt really bad, and I apologized. I told them that I was trying *not* to startle them, but the whole time the woman just kept asking the guy, "Why did you scream like that? You sounded like a little girl!" Then I felt even worse because now I felt like he was going to be in even bigger trouble for not being the protector. Sorry guy!
