Running (trails at JH) 57:39 [3] 4.65 mi (12:24 / mi) +181m 11:04 / mi

When I walked out of my office building, I couldn't believe how cool it felt. It had been drizzling off and on all day, and things had really cooled down. So, I decided I had to go for a run. Yes, I'd had a long day at work, but I felt ready and willing to go running. So, I hurried home and changed and went to Jockey Hollow.

And, I felt really good. Really strong. Maybe it was the inspiration from the ladies at WOC, but I felt like I was cruising. However, my rough calculations show that I wasn't going any faster than normal, but I felt great. And, I ran up all of the hills except for this one that has log steps that are just too high for me to run up.

Very glad that I got out tonight.

Strength Training 1:00:00 [2]

Strictly Strength class. The instructor is going on vacation for a week, so she was particularly brutal on us. I think my abs will definitely hurt tomorrow.

Running (trail) 30:00 [3]

Graham had to take some placement tests at the community college that he'll be attending this year, so I took the opportunity to try out a nearby park. For those astute ones out there, yes, that means Graham does not have his driver's license yet. He has this little issue with not being able to pass the written test. So, he'll be taking the local bus to school this year until he can finally pass the test.

Anyway, so I tried out a new park where yet, once again, the trail measurements were way off. A trail that was advertised as 1.6 miles was only .56 miles. What is that? I was in the middle of measuring another one, but my watch died, but I'm sure it was shorter than advertised. That's okay, though, because this entire county park was covered in rocks and boulders, with steep hillsides. At one point, I looked uphill as I was contouring on a trail, and it looked exactly like West Point.

So, it was a good workout even though it was shorter than I had planned. Before I started running, though, I was sitting in my truck, on a conference call, when I slowly realized that this park was overrun by woodpeckers! Lots of pileated woodpeckers, and then a smaller variety...maybe downy woodpeckers? Anyway, it was cool to watch them while I was taking my call.

Core Conditioning 30:00 [2]

Core class but no yoga class. I was too busy listening to the WOC sprint finals. Plus, I was tired from being up listening to the qualification races. It was so exciting! GO USA!!
