Rain, glorious rain! Finally.

Running (trails at JH) 1:04:40 [3] 5.11 mi (12:39 / mi) +299m 10:42 / mi

Today was a run on the entire Grand Loop trail. I had done bits and pieces before, but today I thought I'd do the whole thing. There was just one section of the trail that I had never been on before. The total length was advertised as 6.25 miles, but it was over a mile shorter than that. Another trail I ran on in the park was advertised as 3 miles, but it was only 2.7. I think they need some help in measurements.

On the way in to the park, I passed a trail maintenance crew on its way back to the maintenance yard. It looked like it might have been some kind of youth group doing a community project because they were all teenagers. They did a good job, though. Many of the spots that tend to stay wet had a new layer of gravel and rocks on them, and all of the logs that had fallen on the trail (some of which had been there for at least a year) were all sawn (sawed?) up and moved away. Thanks trail maintenance crew!

I entered this run a little cautiously because my left knee had been feeling weird for the past few days and even giving out at times. I wasn't sure what was going on, but I figured this run would really point out if there was an issue. And, apparently, there is not. Both knees held up well and felt fine. In fact, I felt pretty good for the entire run, making it up all of the hills except one, without walking.

I guess I had never noticed how many sad songs I have on my iPod. cmpbllv is right...tears and running are not a good mix.

Running 29:44 [4] 2.69 mi (11:04 / mi) +96m 9:58 / mi

The weather was a little less hot, a little less hazy, and much less humid, so I decided to go for a short, but faster run at Jockey Hollow. The run felt really good and smooth, and it was a good chance to do some life assessing thinking.

Running 11:00 [2]

Warm up on the treadmill before strength class. There was no way I was going to run outside tonight. It was hot, hazy, and unhealthy.

Note

Rest day. I started a new job today, with a new team and a relatively new boss. And totally different responsibilities. I know this is going to be much better than what I've been doing for the past two years, so I'm very excited. But, there's a lot to learn and my day began with an 8:00 meeting, during which I had to make a presentation. No pressure.

It was good to be home. Tanner did a relatively good job at keeping my deck plants alive, but it was difficult with the scorching temps. The house was as expected...to the cleanliness levels of a young man, which are normally very, very low. It didn't take too long to straighten things up. And pay bills, catch up on mail, go through emails, start laundry, etc. I was back on track by the end of the day.

Note

Travel day from Spokane to San Fran to Newark. A few delays due to fog in San Fran...imagine that! A nice cool day in Spokane...a scorcher in Newark -- 91 degrees at midnight.

Orienteering race 16:52 [4] *** 2.29 km (7:23 / km) +61m 6:30 / km

NAOC Sprint Champs. W45. Cranbrook, BC. Forerunner = 2.29k

Finally! A clean run. Unfortunately, though, I'm not a very fast runner. So, clean or not, I was still a bit back. Must work on that speed thing, and that navigation thing, for the A-meets this fall.
