Note
Today was a day of good news and bad news.
The good news is that I have a contract on my house, less than a week on the market. There was some back and forth, but we finally settled on an amount. However, in light of my bad news, I might have to rethink the agreed upon timing, which is to close on 6/26.
The bad news is that I saw my knee doctor today and the MRI shows that I have a completely torn ACL...it was lying limply across what looked like the top of my fibia. I also have a nearly complete tear of my medial meniscus. In addition, the ends of my tibia and fibia are badly bruised where they smashed in to each other. And, I have a blood clot in the top of my calf, for which I'm having an ultrasound on Monday to get a better look. So, it's not good.
My doctor was concerned about the instability of my knee, so we went ahead and scheduled surgery for next Friday, 5/22. And, it won't be arthroscopic this time. He has to cut my knee open, use "spare" cartilage to build a new ACL, and then use metal pins to hold it in place. None of which sounds like any fun.
My doctor estimates that I'll be in a big knee brace and on crutches for 2 weeks, maybe running again on a treadmill in about 2 months, and, if I'm really good, back running on trails in 9-12 months. So, it will be a while before I'm orienteering again. :-( As the saying goes, "She's out for the season."
Now I just have to figure out how to fit together my surgery and my move.
