Orienteering 3:15:00 intensity: (2:45:00 @1) + (30:00 @2) 8.0 mi (24:22 / mi)

Cooperative effort for tomorrow's QOC meet. Nadim set the courses, I was vetting the control locations/hanging the bags, and Valerie was following behind and putting out the control boxes. What actually happened was that Valerie and I stayed together the whole time, and I was happy with this. We chatted a little, kabitzed on a couple of control locations, took a picture of Valerie standing in front of this HUGE rootstock, ran the trails, pushed hard on a couple of legs at the end, and just enjoyed the beautiful day. The prior commitment and the great company was just what I needed to get me out of my two week, post NA Champs funk. Thanks, Valerie!

Hiking 45:00 [2]

Since my knee wasn't feeling great after yesterday's easy run, I decided to go for a quick walk in the morning with my sister, Marit. It turned in to quite an adventure. I had wanted to walk about 1.5 miles to a bridge over the Connecticutt river, but along the way, we saw a road that looked like it went down to the river, so we took that. Well, it did not go to the river. It ended up in a huge field/flood plain, but we couldn't see the edges because it was so foggy. We followed the edge of the field, back towards town, and found a less developed dirt road that looked like it headed up towards Main St. This road quickly deteriorated to a river, and it seemed like the best path was in between the rows of corn that were growing beside the road.

As we seemingly got closer to Main St., a sign on this road said "Private Drive. Keep Out." We continued on, of course, and came to a house and then the road stopped. It looked like there was another road up a hill beside our road, so we climbed the hill to find not a road, but some railroad tracks. And then a train whistle. So, we hurried across the tracks, in to the woods on the other side, still heading in the direction of Main St. After traipsing through the woods, we came out on a driveway-type road, which we followed until we came upon...Main St.! Marit was not happy with me. But, it was a fun little adventure.
