Running 44:00 [3]

Not too much slower than what I was running this in before I hurt my knee. This was a good barometer of how much further I have to go. I had had aspirations of getting to PWF for this run, but life and chores got in the way.

Cycling (Trainer) 45:00 intensity: (39:00 @3) + (6:00 @4)

Note

Caitlin is home! I picked her up today at Dulles, and it was a mighty tearful reunion. It's so good to have her home...especially when she bears gifts of Torino chocolate!

Running (Tempo) 20:00 [3]

A quick run through the hood on a cool, grey morning. It felt really good.

AOWN: A flock of vultures feasting on a squashed bunny. Yum!

Hiking 45:00 intensity: (20:00 @2) + (25:00 @3)

I got to Fountainhead early enough to set out water at a water control. I had brought my big backpack (the one that's turning into a water control backpack) and thought I would/could carry 6 gallons. Well, after putting on the pack and looking at how far out the water control was, I decided I wouldn't/couldn't carry 6 gallons, so I reduced it to 4. It was a trail hike out to the control, with one big downhill and one massive uphill. Good training for the knee. I cut through the woods on the way back.

As it turned out, I probably didn't need to set out *any* water, since it POURED down rain all day. There was even enough lightning and thunder to chase some people off their courses. I'm really glad we had rented the pavillion.

My first solo attempt at being "Valerie" at a local meet, and it all went well. I just needed to call Valerie a few times to check on some things, but otherwise, I noodled through. Someone suggested I should have made up a T-shirt that said, "Valerie for a day."
