I went for a ride on the C&O canal with Meg, who has been in Europe for the past month. We started out saying it would just be a leisurely ride so we could talk to each other, but, as is so often the case with us, our competitive nature came through, and soon we were racing down the canal, scaring away every pedestrian, pet and paddler along the way. It *was* a good ride, and we even managed some talking time.
I was a little sad, though, because I was riding my old mountain bike since I left my new one in Laramie. A certain moo, who shall remain nameless, left without it!
I had planned on running this evening as dinner was cooking, but after grabbing the handle of a saute pan that had been in a 450 degree oven for 20 mins., decided it was a rest day. After a few hours with an icepack on it and several vitamin I's, my palm is still throbbing. It's not very easy typing with one hand, but at least I burned my left hand (I'm right handed.)
Went to Fountainhead today for some orienteering training. I concentrated on running perpendicular to the spur/reentrant systems to train on keeping track of them. I also ran up some stream beds and larger reentrants, again to train on keeping track of the forks and the side reentrants. It was another unbearably humid day, but thankfully it wasn't as hot as yesterday. When I was finished, I felt like I had just walked out of the shower. I had brought an orange with me and practically inhaled it when I was finished.

This was the trail run back to my car when I decided I had had enough of running through spider webs with big, fat black spiders in the middle. Yuck! That's a little too AOWN for me.
