Running 1:22:52 [3]
I decided to do a longer run today on the Battlefield trail. I was actually aiming for about 100 minutes, but with the temps in the mid-90s, a heat index of 102, and a heat warning, I thought it would be safest to cut it a bit short. And I'm glad I did, because at about 72 minutes, I started feeling a little woozy and my stomach was getting upset. I made it back to my car, and drank a lot of water. Other than that, I felt really good, except that it was so hot. I even had to take off my shirt and just run in my running bra, and for those who know me fairly well, that is *not* a common occurrence. But, I figured I was in the woods and no one would really see me.
My AOWN sightings were really "at one": I almost stepped on a box turtle, thinking it was a rock; I flushed a grouse from almost right under my feet; and finally, I scared up a hawk that had been sitting on a tree trunk which had fallen some time this summer, and was resting in the crook of another tree. This tree trunk was right next to the trail, and I hadn't seen the hawk...and I guess he hadn't seen me because I was almost on top of him before he flew away. I could feel the breeze his wings made as he took off. Pretty cool!
