Note

Yea, I definitely hurt my back on Saturday, so I took it easy today. It seems to be getting a little better...just a few twinges of pain when I walk or stand up.

Orienteering 1:27:00 [3] *** 6.4 km (13:36 / km)

The first event of the 2007 Summer Sprint Series (or something like that). I almost didn't make it because the traffic between Stafford and Rockville, MD, was pretty bad. But I toughed it out and got there a little late, but thankfully, the course setter was even later in getting back from hanging controls. Just before we started, peggyd and I decided to run together, which was so much fun. I had decided a while ago that I would only do things in my training that I thought were fun, and this was one of them. Unfortunately, I don't know that Peggy would agree, since I led us horribly astray at a few points. That, coupled with an intensely painful back from some errant lifting earlier in the day, maybe detracted a bit from the fun-ness factor. But, it was nice to be out in the woods on a Saturday evening when I probably would have otherwise been home doing nothing. And then, a lovely dinner at California Tortilla and Ben & Jerry's. Yum.

Note

It was interesting to remember while running with Peggy that it was 10 years ago that she and I were running together on these summer trainings, getting ready for the WOC in Norway. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Cycling 1:27:11 [2]

Brought my biking stuff thinking I would bike after work...and I did! I stopped by Wakefield Park and rode my mountain bike twice around Lake Accotink and then once around the trails of Wakefield Park. There were a lot of people out, which was nice to see. They were probably trying to get their exercise in before the forecasted 100 degree weather tomorrow. I felt very good, and wasn't even too bothered by the gajjillions of gnats. The best part was when I was riding back towards the parking lot. It was pretty dark in the woods by then and there were thousands of fireflies everywhere. The woods were so twinkly with their lights. So cool.

Running 40:31 [2]

I took inspiration from PG tonight and went for a run. I wasn't going to go...oh, no. I had had a busy day at work, non-stop craziness. Then, the A/C guy came to fix my air conditioner which had decided last week that it wasn't in the mood to cool anymore. Well, since the unit is only about 2.5 years old, I figured it just needed a burst of something to get going. Unfortunately, the burst of something cost me $1100 and a few choice words for the technician.

So, I was about to drown my sorrows when I went out to get the mail and discovered a wonderful evening. The air was crisp, the light was gorgeous and all of my neighbors were out. So, I laced on my shoes and had quite an enjoyable run at a time when I normally don't run. Thank you, Mr. G.
