Orienteering 1:34:15 [3] **
Ok, I finally made it outside! Today was still cold, hovering around freezing, but the sun was shining and work was calm, so I ventured out to Hemlock. My intention was to run as much of the Blue course that I set a few weeks ago as I could in 1:40. And, I was running it in reverse order. I ended up only skipping 5-4-3, and cutting from 6 to 2, which actually made for some good orienteering. I also went out without a compass again since, by now, I am quite familiar with this area. And, actually, this might be borderline terrain run vs. orienteering, but I will keep it classified as o-ing. Even though this is my third time in the area in less than a month, I still managed to make a parallel error on a reentrant. Nothing too disastrous, but still troublesome. Other than that, no problems except for feet that were two blocks of ice by the end.
Note
I had quite a few AOWN moments today, but the best was when I looked out my kitchen window into the backyard and saw 4 deer grazing on my lawn! Now, it's not like I live in the wilderness...I'm in a subdivision. I've seen the occasional deer run through my backyard, but never four at one time. And never just grazing on my grass!
I also saw two beautiful bluebirds on my way to Hemlock and almost ran over a hawk. That's right. It swooped right down in front of my car...I think he was on his way to a mouse and wasn't paying attention to traffic. Very dangerous.
My final sighting was on all of the trails at Hemlock. It seemed like no matter which trail I was on, there were animal footprints,,,the padded kind not the hoofy kind. On the first trail, I just thought they were dog prints, but then I realized there were no human footprints accompanying them. After that, I noticed the same prints on every single trail I was on. Freaky!
