Orienteering 57:08 [4] *** 5.9 km (9:41 / km)
Another meeting of the Flashy F45s. Valerie set a control picking course in Great Falls, VA. Twenty-two controls over 5.9k, all in the southern part of the map. I did it without a compass for extra training and only had a few mindless maneuvers. On the way to 8, I stayed on a trail that I hadn't intended to use. It turned out to be a better route choice, but not the one I had planned to take, so I consider it a mistake. Then, from 8 - 9, I was distracted by another control circle on the map, #18, so went there instead. I realized my mistake when I saw the next control was #19 intstead of #10...oops. And then going to #15, I should have stayed on the trail to the reentrant, but stayed up on the ridge instead. This was a good training exercise because it definitely helped me to pick a route choice quickly and concentrate the whole time. It was very cold, though. My toes didn't thaw out until #16. And when I tried to comb my hair afterwards, it just froze, so I slapped my hat back on.
Thanks, Valerie! It was great fun. Hope you had a good brunch.

Okay, well it's not so bad that the "Other" category is dragging me down. I had counted on getting in more skiing and mountain biking, but the weather wasn't cooperating. All in all, though, a good month.
