Note

Six hours in the car today picking up the boys from their summer with their dad. It's very nice to have them back, although I'm not looking forward to the school year. The struggle with homework, tests and projects is always quite draining and stressful. But, I guess that comes with the territory. Maybe, just maybe, this will be the year where they take responsibility for their own actions. Ahhh, hope springs eternal.

Orienteering race 28:56 [4] *** 2.87 km (10:05 / km) +70m 8:59 / km

QOC Summer Series, Sprint 1. These sprints were on a new map, The Glendening Preserve, part of the Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary. There wasn't much contour relief , as noted by the lack of climb, so this area was actually a perfect place for sprints. The woods were pretty open for the most part, but the orienteering could still be tricky, as I found out on a few early controls. I had troubles with 2, 3 and 4 on this course before I got adjusted to the map. I kept drifting off to the right. Then StoraMoo led me astray on #6(!), but we quickly recovered. I felt good running even though it was quite warm and humid. There was a lot of sweating going on in the Finish area.

Orienteering race 28:57 [4] *** 2.97 km (9:45 / km) +40m 9:08 / km

Sprint 2. After waiting about an hour or so (and being stung three times on my ankle by a bee that got stuck in my pants leg), I went back out on the second Sprint of the day. I did much better on this one, navigationally, and didn't feel like I slowed down too much from the first Sprint. I missed #3 a bit only because I saw another earth bank from far off and thought it was the control, but it was really an earth bank SW of the control. Then I messed up a bit on #4 because I didn't see the first trail I was supposed to cross, got to the 2nd trail thinking it was the first one, and then hit a stream that I was *not* supposed to hit. But, I quickly recovered.

Both of these sprints were a lot of fun! Many thanks to peggyd for setting up today's event and organizing the entire Summer Series!

Running (Trail) 47:27 [3] 5.0 mi (9:29 / mi)

I was finally able to get out for a run. Did a nice trail run and felt really good, except for a bit of stomach issues towards the end. This was an out and back course and, since the spider webs were pretty thick on the way out, I figured I would have a nice return trip. No such luck...some webs (or at least strands) were already up! Those suckers are fast!

Note

Talk about plunging right back into the whirlwind of life! At a morning staff meeting on Tuesday, I was given the assignment of creating a 40-page presentation on the state of the business to be presented at an all-day meeting on Thursday to my Exec. VP. Needless to say, I had some early mornings and late nights. Hopefully things will be a bit calmer next week.

Note

Swampfox and I had a leisurely drive to Denver after the US Champs on Sunday, and then an enjoyable dinner with the esteemed Gagarins...and Clem. Today was a travel day back home, and back to reality. :-(
