Note

The plan was to go for a trail run in PWF, but I got sucked into doing yard work and lost all track of time. However, my yard looks beautiful!

Swimming 1:00:00 [2] 2.05 km (29:16 / km)

Swam for an hour today, the longest I've swum for a long time. It felt fine, except towards the end my left calf was starting to cramp up.

4x100 free/kick/free/pull
3x100 25kick/50free/25kick
200 Drill
5x200 breast/free/br/free/br
4x25 sprint
50 easy

Core Conditioning 40:00 [2]

Decided I needed a bit of core conditioning tonight. Always a nice way to end the day. It also doesn't hurt that this put me 1 minute ahead of the Killer Training Babe.

Running (Road) 28:31 [3] 3.0 mi (9:30 / mi)

I almost didn't to out today after a pretty hectic morning with two very unorganized teenage boys, but I forced myself out the door, and I'm glad I did. A pretty fast run for my neighborhood loop. Everything felt good except I think I might be feeling the beginnings of a cold. Time to hit the Vitamin C pretty hard.

Cycling (Trainer) 1:00:00 [3]

The time has come to start doing intervals on the trainer. So tonight I did 5 min. warm-up, 8 x :15 big gear standing/:45 easy, 3 min. easy, 10 x 1:30fast/:30easy, 24 min. medium. Although it's harder than just spinning, it does make the time go by faster.

Running (Road) 52:14 [3] 5.5 mi (9:30 / mi)

Went to PWF to run some intervals on the scenic loop. Two mile warm up and then 8x of 1 min. fast/2 min. easy, and finally a one mile cool down. To measure my progress on the 1 min. intervals, I counted my paces and came up with 85, 87, 87, 89, 91, 91, 92 and 92. I felt good; my hamstring was still a little sore but I've decided I just need to deal with it for now.

Running (Road) 29:22 [3] 3.0 mi (9:47 / mi)

A very cold run through the neighborhood at about 20 degrees. I felt a little tight from yesterday, so I took it easy except that I charged up the hill at the halfway point. My hands were pretty much blocks of ice by then, so I wanted to pump my arms up the hill to get them thawed out. And it worked!

Strength Training 55:00 [1]

It had definitely been a while since I had last lifted weights. My arms feel tired just typing this! Can't let it go that long next time.

Running (Trail) 1:29:13 [3] 7.5 mi (11:54 / mi)

It was a beautiful day...bright sunshine and a deep blue sky, albeit it was quite chilly with a rather stiff wind. Went to PWF for a new trail run that I pieced together. From the Visitor Center parking lot, took the Crossing Trail through Williams ballfield and Telegraph Rd. picnic area and hooked up with Birch Bluff trail. Ran that to the end, then on to a piece of Laurel Loop, across the suspension bridge (experiencing harmonic convergence), and up North Orenda Road (scene of earlier meadow drill training) to the scenic loop. Around the loop to Lake One Road and down to North Valley Trail. Ran that to the Pyrite Mine. This was really cool because you weren't allowed in the Pyrite Mine area before, but now the park has built a bridge across Quantico Creek and you can run on the other side. They also have a nice viewing platform and a history tableau of the pyrite mine. All very educational. From the pyrite mine, around to the beginning of the South Valley trail, across the suspension bridge again and up South Orenda Road, finishing up on the handicapped trail. (I will now wait for Valerie to correct my estimated distance!)
