Skiing, Downhill 2:00:00 [1]

The boys and I spent the weekend with a couple of other families at Wintergreen Ski Resort. The weather today was horribly cold and windy, with near blizzard-like conditions at times. And despite all that, we were on the mountain 5+ hours! I decided just to log a fraction of the time at a "1" for the work out on the quads.

Cycling 1:39:20 [3] 25.0 mi (15.1 mph)

I was hoping to actually take my bike off the trainer today and out onto the roads, but the gods of fog weren't going for that. Another low bank of clouds enveloped Stafford this morning and forced me into the basement for a long and somewhat boring trainer session. I say somewhat because I started a new book by one of my favorite writers, Bill Bryson. I've read several of his books, and I am now reading "In a Sunburned Country." Very funny, as usual.

Running (Road) 50:56 [3] 5.0 mi (10:11 / mi)

Ran through the neighborhood but didn't see much of it since there was a pea-soup fog all morning. I came back soaking wet and it wasn't even raining. Ran my old 5 mile route which is quite hilly. Threw in 8 intervals of 20 sec. fast/60 sec. easy. My hamstring was bothering me, but not as bad as yesterday.

Running (Road) 30:30 [2] 3.0 mi (10:10 / mi)

Did a very easy short run through the neighborhood. My hamstring was very tight this morning, so opted for just a little something to try to loosen it up.

Strength Training 55:00 [2]

Lifted weights for the first time in a few weeks. I was very happy doing this workout because I really do love weight workouts. I love to go for the burn, baby!! (ha, ha...not really but I think that's what you're supposed to say).

Cycling (Trainer) 1:01:03 [2]

Rode the trainer for an hour. Finally (!) finished "Guns, Germs, and Steel." I really need to find more time to read. That's why I decided to forego my usual TV watching for some reading time on the trainer. Next on the reading list will be something a little lighter.

Orienteering 2:30:00 [2] ***

Spurred on by a Tom Carr, who was visiting DC on business, a bunch of QOCers met at PWF to run the Day 1 Blue course from the 2002 US Champs. We each hung some controls/streamers and then went out and ran the course. I didn't do the whole thing (wasn't planning on it due to time constraints) and ended up doing what I did do with Valerie. Along the way, we also met up with Heidi Onkst. It turned into a fairly social event (which I like), but it was also a good foray out into the woods (after a bit of a hiatus) and working on map skills.

Orienteering 15:00 [1] **

Hanging streamers before going out.
