Orienteering race 55:05 [4]

Fountainhead Brown course. Well, this went much better than the last time I went orienteering. I felt like I took much better route choices, and I was very surprised to see that I had the third fastest time on the long leg to #5.

It was a rainy day but pretty warm, so it ended up being pleasant to run. The trails were very, very muddy. I managed to stay clean until the last control when I went careening down the steep reentrant on my butt. Then I was very muddy!

I also had a nice chat with Sandy about all of the work to be done with memberships, check reqs, club recharters, etc. She really has been a godsend!

Morning class at work. I wanted to get in early because I'm leaving early to see "The Post" with my sisters and then out to dinner. It's a new thing we're going to try...movie night once a month. Neither of their husbands is a big movie-goer, so we're banding together.

Made myself go to the gym after work. It was not too bad, although I think my gym is being taken over by a bunch of loud weightlifters. It's particularly disconcerting when they just drop the weights with a loud bang.

This went slightly better, in a different way. Instead of one or two major mistakes, I made slight mistakes on half of the controls. Still aggravating. And then I stepped in a hole on the way to #9, and slammed down on my shoulder. It was quite painful, and is still sore on Monday, but getting better.

I was a pre-runner today, starting at 7:30 am. It was just light enough, but cold, cold, cold. It was a good thing, though, because it meant I could get on the road by 9:30 to head home on the 8 hour drive.

GNC at Mistletoe State Park.

I registered for the Brown course this weekend because lack of fitness and O-training. And it showed. I did okay for most of the controls, but lost 10 minutes (!) on #3 and another 5 minutes at #5. I was within meters of #3 twice(!) but it was in a pit and I just couldn't see it. So aggravating. Control 5 was just a matter of maximum hesitation. I kept feeling like I had gone too far, only to realize I just needed to keep going.

A nice, tricky course.

Note

A good Board meeting. Only three in-person attendees; I think we're getting very used to having online meetings, which might be a good thing.

Good discussion about the budget, the teams, the new OUSA library, and safety. I'm working on the meeting notes, which will be out soon.

And then an enjoyable dinner with the OCIN crowd.
