Yoga 45:00 [2]

I took the yoga class at work today since I had a meeting during the cardio class. The instructor is so great! It wasn't very strenuous, but he was good about gently correcting things so you could do each pose better. I might switch out one noon class a week to do a yoga class.

Cardio 30:00 [4]

The regular instructor was out last week, and there were subs the whole week. I thought they did a good job, I got a good workout, nothing I couldn't manage. And then Molly came back and holy moly! She ramped it up by about 3-fold. My heart was pumping and by the end, I could hardly get the weights over my head. Good workout!

Core Conditioning 15:00 [3]

I stayed after class for the mini-core session.

Orienteering race 1:00:49 [4]

I was going to run Green, but switched to Brown...again. I told Amy I would help her with e-punch since Valerie wasn't going to be at the Prince William meet, and I had to get in and out quickly because I wasn't finished with my OUSA admin homework yet, and I had to get home to do that.

I'm very happy...that I forgot my Garmin today! Major sloppiness and ugliness to 4 and 5, the latter being totally ridiculous. I was supposed to hit a trail, run up it to a field, through the field and down the other side to a jeep road. Well, I hit the trail, ran through the field, and somehow curved too much when coming down the other side that I hit the same trail again! Just lower down. So stupid, but I laughed.

Other than those two, everything went fine. I had seen a guy at #2 and was positive he had passed me in my 4/5 craziness, so my goal became to catch him again before the finish. And I did! I punched the last control and was going to take the trail to the finish, which was a tad windy, when I saw him ahead of me on the trail. So, I cut through the little strip of woods out to the same field as before and ran in front of him as he was coming out of the trail into the field. Punched into the finish about 2 seconds ahead. I thanked him for the motivation.

Strength Training 30:00 [3]

Ok, new plan to try to fit in workouts. I joined the fitness center at work, and it has classes at lunch...30 minutes of intense cardio and strength training. It also has yoga on Tuesday and Thursday, and spin class after work. I did this because I realized that I just wasn't getting to my regular gym, so needed something easier to get to. We'll see how long this lasts.

Note

While looking for another photo, I found this one. Can't remember if I've posted this before, but it's at the 1977 US Champs at Pocahontas State Park in Virginia. Yours truly in the front row far right and Mr. Fox is in the back row far right. Sharon Crawford is standing far left, next to Peter G. And the memorable Jim Plant, 4th from left in back. Memories.

Note

I got into a political discussion with Susan Stamberg today while standing in the lunch line. She invited me to her lunch meetings she has to discuss the news of the day. Yes, I'm in heaven.

Note

And then I went to see Billy Corgan at the Tiny Desk concert.

Orienteering 57:58 [3] 3.05 mi (19:00 / mi) +65m 17:50 / mi

I ran the Brown course today because I was feeling fat and out of shape, but once I got out there, I was feeling okay. I didn't take trail options because I knew that I needed practice following my compass; something I learned at Rochester. The first long leg on compass (to #6) didn't go so stellar, but the next one (to #8) went much better. It felt good to be out in the woods again, but I almost didn't go because I was thinking I might have to go to Shepherdstown. Mom went to the ER last night...she got bit by a spider on her hand! The doctor was concerned enough that he kept her overnight so she could get IV antibiotics. She's home now, and Don says her spirits are up. This is the second spider bite on someone I know in the past week. I wonder what's going on.

Note

I had dinner at my friend Meg's tonight, and her husband was bit by something on his forehead last week! His eye was completely swollen shut and he had to go on strong antibiotics. It still looked pretty bad tonight. I think the insect world has begun its attack!

Running 1:00:00 [3]

Today was a technology fail. I forgot my Garmin and my phone died halfway through my run. But it was still a nice trail run at Happy Jack.
