Note

I just read George's log, and he's so good about updating his progress, so I thought I should do the same. At least for the next time I get a knee replacement, so I can compare notes.

It's 3 weeks + 1 day out from my surgery, and things are going great. My doctor gave me until my next visit on April 19 to be walking without a cane and to be able to bend my leg to 110˚. Well, I gave up my cane 3 days ago, and today at PT, they bent me to 114˚! It's all so unbelievable so soon after surgery. And any pain I am feeling is not from my knee; it's from the muscles in my leg. I think they were a little traumatized from the surgery, and then in addition to that, they have to adapt to the new alignment of my leg. For the past many years, my left leg was knock-kneed because there was no cartilage there or an ACL to help keep it straight. Now, it's so straight and the muscles have to adapt. I have two normal legs...weird!

I can now walk down stairs pretty normally; at least without having to take one step at a time. I can also get in and out of my car without moving the seat all of the way back. I've had to concentrate on getting rid of old habits like keeping my leg stretched out front when I sit down. I can now bend it enough to sit down normally (unless the seat is very low).

I have joined the ranks of people who wonder why they didn't do this procedure sooner. I am already so happy I did it.

Note

I am on the road to recovery. I had my surgery last Tuesday, and things are progressing along nicely. Still in some amount of pain without pain pills, but my live-in nurse is doing his best to keep on top of that. Honestly, I would not have gotten through this without Mikell. He has made it all possible.
