Strength Training 1:00:00 [3]

8:00 am Body Pump class. I was thinking that there wouldn't be many people here, but it was packed! There almost wasn't room for everyone. The instructor for this class, Kathy, was the instructor at my first class here, and she is very good. I'm going to keep trying to make this class.

Regular workout

Cycling 40:00 [3] 7.91 mi (11.9 mph)

Not such a glorious workout. My left knee was pretty sore, so the warm up was very careful and slow, and the one-legged reps were very slow on the left leg. And I was supposed to do 2 minutes between sets, but I got confused. Well, at least I did it.

Warm up: 10 mins
Cycle: 7 x (1 min. right/1 min. left/1 min. both)
Cool down: 10 mins

Cycling 40:00 intensity: (33:00 @3) + (7:00 @4) 8.48 mi (12.7 mph)

On the stationary bike in the gym. I might have been able to do this workout outside since the temperature was about 40˚ warmer this morning than yesterday morning, but it was still very wet and very windy. So, I wimped out. I missed the outside when I realized how hot it was inside of the gym. Yuck!

Warm up: 10 mins
Intervals: 7 x 1 min; 2 min recovery
Cool down: 9 mins

Swimming 25:00 [3]

I had so much fun yesterday, I went back for more.

Warm up: 100
Drills: 8 x 25
Swim: 3 x 100
Kick: 2 x 25
Cool down: 100
12 PM

Running 57:59 intensity: (20:00 @3) + (37:59 @4) 3.75 mi (15:28 / mi) +54m 14:48 / mi

I worked from home today so I could go for a run during the day. I was going to do an easy out and back through Lake Fairfax Park, but I got a little lost! I can't believe it. Coming back, I wasn't paying enough attention and took a trail that started going uphill. Halfway up, I realized that I was on the wrong trail, but I thought it came back down to the creek eventually, so I stayed on it. It did go back down, but not where I thought and by that time, I was all turned around. I started back on the right trail, but second-guessed myself and wound up right back at the confusion point. After consulting Google maps and the compass on my phone, I figured it out and just shook my head and laughed at my stupidity. But, it was a nice run before returning home to a crisis situation. :-(

Swimming 30:00 [3]

First time in the water since my triathlon. I was a little nervous, but it ended up feeling so good. I shared a lane with a young woman who was literally swimming twice as fast as me. We kept meeting at the end of the lane, but she had swum two laps to my one. Yikes!

Warm up: 100
Drills: 4 x 25
Swim: 3 x 100
Kick: 4 x 25
Cool down: 100

Orienteering race 1:31:01 [3] 4.53 mi (20:06 / mi) +129m 18:28 / mi

Balls Bluff Green course: 5.5 km / 195 m

Yay, I was back out in the woods doing some orienteering! Boo -- it was not a great outing. My mind was very feeble on #1(!) which was a street-O control. I was completely stupid, stopping one intersection too soon...right out of the start!! Ack. My mind was even more feeble on #3, when I ran down the wrong trail and had to backtrack to the control. AP says I lost 6 minutes there, and I believe it. After that, things went fine, but I'm just so terribly out of shape and this park is so hilly, that it was a painful slog through the course. But, I'm working on it, so next year's Balls Bluff event should go better.

I helped Valerie for about 10 minutes with download, mainly just to snag her lovely warm moose blanket since it was extremely cold. Here is a picture of me and Peggy, looking very cold:

We had to take this selfie so that I could maintain my streak of being on every single one of her holiday letters.

I also talked to Valerie about doing a super-sprint triathlon with her in May. Something to aim for!
