Orienteering 59:15 [3]

And one last outing before heading home. We ran the East Pelican bay course from Laramie Daze last year. Not a stellar outing for either running or navigating, but nothing disastrous. Just kind of "meh."

Of course, I had planned to be in much better shape and be more ready for Scotland, but it is what it is. Life and work got in the way, so I'm as ready as I'm going to be...considering. My goal is not to have any major blow-ups over there. As long I keep moving and find everything with minimal tears, I will consider it a success. Plus, two weeks totally out of communication with work is worth its weight in gold!!

We leave Thursday and there is so much to be done between now and then. But, as Mikell said, once I'm in seat 19C, heading to Glasgow, hopefully much of the stress will just melt away.

Mt. Biking 1:15:00 [3]

Mikell and I headed out to the open lands east of Inca Dr. and rode around on the trails there. After playing around in the flatlands for a while, we began a gradual ascent towards Pilot Hill (we definitely just made it to the foothills). I was afraid that it might be too much since I haven't been on my mt. bike in ages, but it actually was just fine. There could have been fewer rocks on the trails, but I managed just fine. And the downhill all of the way back to Inca was so much fun!

An early evening run at Happy Jack. It was beautiful and felt so good to be outside.

Orienteering 1:25:00 [2]

I was out vetting controls for the Manitou Lake meet in a few weeks. I'll be in Scotland, so I told Galen I would vet the courses on paper and in the woods. Unfortunately, I was not feeling 100% when I woke up and so was waffling on whether I would even go. I tried to see if Jim Baker would vet them, since he lives in Woodland Park, but I didn't get an answer soon enough, so I headed out.

On top of the late start, I hit a massive amount of traffic from folks heading to the Renaissance Fair, so I was even further delayed. Once I started out in the woods, I decided I would do as much as I could before I had to head home for my Botanic Gardens shift in the evening. As I moved through the controls, I began to think I might be able to get them all done, after all, but then the dark clouds moved in. The rain was fine, I don't mind getting wet, but when it started to thunder and lightning, that's where I draw the line. So, I got about half of them done, and Jim will do the rest next weekend.

Before the storms moved in, it was a beautiful day. Although, you can see here the clouds over Pike's Peak:

And the wildflowers were still abundant and beautiful:

Orienteering race 1:19:00 [4] 7.2 km (10:58 / km)

Red course at the Rocky Mt. State Games at Fox Run.

I would have done the Green course for my age category, but F50 was mistakenly placed on the Brown course for the Games, so I just decided to stick with Red. It was pretty easy navigationally, but it's hard to make it tough at Fox Run because the woods are extremely open, and there are so many trails. We also keep tweaking the map to supposedly make it better, but something is still wrong. I think we just need to start from scratch, using a combo of lidar and kartapallautin (sp?).

It was a pretty hot day. I found all of the controls just fine, but started losing energy about 2/3 of the way through. Driving home, a weather front came through, and I drove through a pretty vicious storm. I just kept praying that it wouldn't start to hail.

Strength Training 1:00:00 [3]

Back to Body Pump after a long absence. Instead of dropping to lower weights like I usually do after being gone for a while, I stayed with the weight I had been using before I left. It was hard, but I managed it, so that was good. I also noticed that my right wrist was sore. Not sure why, but I hope it doesn't get any worse.

Cycling 31:34 [3]

A short session on the recumbent bike at the hotel before a day full of meetings. I had planned on using the stationary bike, like usual, but it was not working. :-( I was also going to end at 30 minutes exactly, but I was so engrossed in the bridge story in Cristina's log, that I went a little over. Oops.

Running 38:46 intensity: (15:51 @2) + (22:55 @3)

A morning run around Wash Park before I head out to Dallas for a few days for work. It was a pleasant morning here...not looking forward to 97F in Dallas. Yuck!
