Running 35:43 intensity: (15:35 @2) + (20:08 @3) 3.1 mi (11:31 / mi)

A loop around Wash Park. This felt better than the last time. Progress. And the snow began just as I was finishing up.

Cycling 1:05:45 [3] 15.5 mi (14.1 mph)

I got in some cycling...OUTSIDE! It was in the mid-60s today, with bright sunshine, so I hopped on my bike for a trip out towards Cherry Creek SP. It wasn't a very fast trip, mainly because my legs were tired from the ski-O yesterday, but also because I had to slow down many times because the trail was packed. It was almost the busiest I've ever seen it, even counting in the summer. I think everyone was just so excited with the beautiful day, that they had to get out.

Skiing, X-C race 1:49:00 [4] 7.1 km (15:21 / km) +290m 12:45 / km

The first ski-o of the year! RMOC had our annual event at Eldora and man, was it windy! I got up there pretty early (8:15) because I had to stop by the club's storage locker first to get some supplies. We set up registration in the waxing shed and then waited for the crowds. That's when the coldness started to creep into my toes.

And...welcome to James Baker! He's in Woodland Park now, and it appears he'll be staying there for many years. RMOC is thrilled to have someone with his experience join the club. He's already starting to help...he was on registration duty yesterday, which was wonderful because we had an influx of ~30 skiers from the Boulder Junior Nordic Racing Team try out the Medium course. I wasn't back yet when they finished, but it sounds like they had a good time.

I eventually went out on the Long course, mainly as a way to warm up. Doug Berling put out a nice course, which I was enjoying until the penultimate control, when he had us climb back up the mountain, to the very top, only to turn around and ski right back down to the finish. I took a little bit of a short cut on a snowshoe trail, which worked out fine until the last third, when I had to take off my skis and walk down because the trail got very steep and twisty in the trees.

Despite the cold and torrential winds, it was a fun day. But I felt a little silly by the time I made it down to Boulder, where it was 55˚ and I still had on 3 layers on the bottom, 4 layers on top, a hat and a scarf. A little bit of overkill at that point. And by Monday, it's supposed to hit 70˚ in Denver. Crazy weather!

Core Conditioning 1:00:00 [3]

Barre class, but without Kate, the regular instructor. She's handed this class off to another instructor, Laurie, who was fine, but not Kate. It started out slow, but ended up as a good workout...like a nice slow burn. Also, Laurie is six weeks out of double total knee replacements, having done both knees at the same time. I spent about 30 minutes after class picking her brain about the operation. Maybe this year is the year for me. We shall see.

Back to Body Pump class. It felt great!

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

On the trainer at the gym. I was hoping to get to barre class tonight, but I had to meet with a contractor first. I'm hoping to get a few things done around the house...mainly the things that have been bugging me since I move in. Like the tile kitchen counter that does nothing but collect food particles in the grout. Ick!

Running 37:00 intensity: (19:45 @2) + (17:15 @3) 3.1 mi (11:56 / mi)

OMG, what a beautiful day. It almost felt like an early spring day. The park was packed as I took an easy lap around. Could this be the beginning of something? I hope so.

On a trainer at the gym. I've started a new binge-watching series...Shameless. It looks like it's going to be good.

Skiing, X-C 2:00:00 [3]

Last day of skiing before heading back to Denver. Today was great because it snowed most of the time we were skiing, which I love. Otherwise, it was fairly warm. I definitely wore too much.

A highlight of these skiing days has been the podcast "Serial." I started it on Friday and am already almost finished...just 3 more episodes. So glad I found this podcast!

Skiing, X-C 1:25:00 [3]

Another day at the Jack. We went earlier in the day, so it was quite warm and the trails were full of people. Even Mikell was surprised at the crowds. We went early because we are now headed out to watch some Pokes basketball against Boise St.

Skiing, X-C 1:10:00 [3]

First ski of the season. It was a nice day at Happy Jack, not too cold and sunny at the beginning. The place was overrun with middle and high schoolers, though. It was good to see everyone out there.

I felt pretty unsteady on my skis...kind of wobbly. I guess that's to be expected the first few times out each season.
