Treadmill 5:00 [2]

Warm up

HIIT 50:00 [3]

Workout #1

Note

So, I hit 74% of my target hours for March which just about syncs up with being out for a week with the flu and bronchitis. I'll make it in April, for sure.
7 AM

Hiking 47:38 [3] 2.93 mi (16:14 / mi) +5m 16:09 / mi

Another first...my first walk around Wash Park. It is unbelievable to be just 2 blocks from such a nice park. I was out a little early, and the running path was already pretty crowded. The running path is a cinder trail that runs around the periphery of the park. There is also a paved road/bike lane that is closer into the park, and then various paths that weave around the lakes and gardens throughout the park. It was really fun to look at all of the houses just outside of the park and get ideas for my garden.

There are also dogs...everywhere! Almost as many dogs as people. But, a surprising lack of dog poop! Thank goodness.

PT 30:00 [2]

Finally! I got back to PT.

Cycling 52:52 [3] 12.38 mi (14.1 mph) +87m

My inaugural training ride on the Cherry Creek trail, and it was great. The trail is pretty smooth, and it goes under every single street crossing! So no hassling with cars. And, I can bike to it from my house which means when I work from home, I can be on the trail by 4:30ish. What a fantastic resource to have so close by.

It was pretty warm today, so I could ride in shorts and a ss top. I even had to put on sunscreen, just in case. The only bad parts of the ride were the massive clouds of gnats. They were so bad on one part of the trail that I had to ride with my head down, peeking up just to make sure I wasn't going to hit anyone.

Not so much as yesterday since we slept 12(!) hours, trying to catch up from no sleep yesterday.

Hiking 1:00:00 [2]

I wasn't going to log the walking I'm doing here in Scandinavia, but it's turned in to quite a bit of exercise. And, since all I can normally do is walk anyway, I'm logging parts of it.

Note

It appears I might just survive this thing. I've been lying low all week, barely able to move on Monday and Tuesday, and then very slowly improving with each passing day. Managed to get to a doctor on Monday for a diagnosis of flu and bronchitis. It turns out that almost everyone who attended the meeting that I did in New Jersey last Thursday was felled by this crud, with one of them -- a guy who has a heart condition -- having to be hospitalized for some close monitoring. It was not a good thing.

The only remaining symptom is a sensitive throat that is very easily triggered into coughing fits. Talking is a big trigger, so I've tried to cut way back on that. Eating can also be a trigger. I almost choked to death this morning on my shredded wheat cereal. It scratched my throat enough to cause a major coughing fit, which in turn started closing down my throat. So, I have to lay off the mini wheats for awhile. Breathing can also trigger the cough. Talking, eating, breathing...those are 3 big ones!

I declare myself healthy enough to travel, though, which is a good thing since I leave tomorrow for a 10-day trip to Denmark and Norway with my mom and two sisters. We're going over there to visit family and friends and just to take a break from life for awhile.

Orienteering race 1:33:00 [3] 5.7 km (16:19 / km)

While I was already planning on walking the course, that strategy was further reinforced when I woke up this morning with bronchitis. I had started coughing occasionally yesterday, which is usually a precursor for bronchitis (for me). And then woke up this morning with a pretty bad barking cough.

I decided to go out on the course and just do the first few controls, but of course I stuck with it and finished the whole thing. My chest was very sore at the end, and now I'm laid up in the hotel room with a slight fever and a headache, coughing and sneezing. I will not be going out tomorrow.

Other than feeling like crap and missing #1 to the right, I had a great navigational day.
