Hiking 1:00:00 [3] 3.5 mi (17:09 / mi)

An enjoyable hike on the C&O Canal at Shepherdstown, WV, a brief stopover on my way out west...finally!

I spent all day Wednesday getting packed up by the movers. By the end of the day, there was nothing left unpacked in my house other than my bed. The loaders showed up the next morning to put everything on the truck. All three of the loaders started out the day, after taking an inventory of the house, by saying that it should be a quick load and not take up even half of the truck. As the day wore on, they kept extending their time estimations, and their guesses on how much of the truck would be filled. Well, by the end of the day, 11 hours later, I was shining my car headlights on the truck so the movers could see what they were doing. And, it took all of their muscle power to push my last items in the truck so they could manage to close the back roll-down door. Not at all good guessers!

This home sale was quite different from when I sold my house in Virginia, when I had a contract within 3 days of going on the market and was out of the house within a month. This time, it took 3 months to get a contract and 5 months to finally be out of the house. But at least I'm out and on my way to Denver, with a slight detour through Laramie for a few days. My time in New Jersey wasn't all bad, but I have absolutely no plans on ever living there again. I just did not fit in well. I am very excited, though, for the start of this next phase. I think it's going to be a fun one.

Cycling (Trainer) 30:00 [3]

After a solid week of packing and cleaning and trashing, I decided it was time for some "real" exercise. Although my arms feel like the packing, etc., was a little like real exercise.

Yoga 10:00 [2]

A little warm-up, led by the lovely Miss Rhonda, before hopping on a spinning bike. The next exercise was going to be gympa, led by Marie, and I knew I had no business doing any of that!

Cycling 35:00 [2]

Sandwiched between Gail and Joe on the spinning bikes, I had a nice ride while surveying the rest of the crowd doing gympa. It looked very exhausting and very, very strenuous on the knees. Glad I opted out.

Hiking 28:00 [2]

A good walk spoiled.

I was feeling a little logey this morning, so I went for a hike in Jockey Hollow to try to perk things up. Unfortunately, right before I headed out, a work issue sprung up, so I brought my cell phone just in case. Indeed, a conference call was hastily pulled together, and I joined from the trail. And that is when I discovered there is not universal 3G coverage in the park. I had to turn around and head back earlier than planned so I wouldn't lose the call.

Plus, I had to get ready for my trip to Ratlum Mt.!

Orienteering 1:20:00 [3]

RHINO Long Course with Gail and Jim, the Forester. Alot of fun and not too many mistakes.

Cycling 1:20:00 [3] 17.0 mi (12.8 mph)

A very nice afternoon ride out on the roads...finally! My bike felt as good as new, so I guess the mechanic did his job well. It was beautiful outside!

Hiking 55:00 [3] 3.0 mi (18:20 / mi)

I was feeling much better today, so I went for a morning hike in Jockey Hollow. It was pretty chilly, but once I got going, it was fine. The parking lot area was quite crowded, but as soon as I got out on the trails, it was better. I went on some trails that I hadn't been on since the summer/fall storms, and I was surprised at the complete mess that I found. Some pretty big trees had come down, several across the trail (they'd been cut up by now), and the woods were just totally blocked by downed branches and barberry bushes. It did not look very orienteering-friendly at all.

Note

My bike was finally done being fixed at the bike shop, so I picked it up today. I had a little mishap back when SF and I returned from our trip through the Carolinas, and I forgot that my bike was on the roof as I pulled into my garage. Yikes!! In bike vs. garage, the garage always wins. I totally shredded the fork, so I needed a new one of those. Plus a new saddle, and some brake repairs. My mechanic felt sorry for my stupidity and gave me a discount, which was very nice, and now I have a working bike again. He also gave me some tips on how to remind myself that my bike is up top. However, I think I'll just keep my bike *in* the car for awhile just to be safe. Plus, I need a new bike rack since the other one folded like an accordion in the mishap.

Note

I woke up this morning, ready to bike again, but as soon as I got out of bed, I doubled over in pain. My entire abdominal area, from side to side, was extremely painful. Just walking was bad. I got back in bed and laid in the fetal position for another hour or so and tried again, but it was still bad. So, I didn't go into the office, and just stayed in bed all day with my laptop. Eventually, things got better but it was a pretty bizarre episode.

Cycling 30:00 [3]

A morning ride on the trainer. I'm going to try to go back to doing some sort of morning activity since the after-a-grueling-day-at-work routine isn't working out so well.
