A quick run around the Hood just to loosen things up. I wasn't sore after this weekend, but I could feel slightly more fatigue in my legs today, especially on the hills. I need to really concentrate on getting a pattern of training started and not always give in to work. I just need to make time to make it happen. Easier said than done. unfortunately.
Note
On another note, it looks like my relocation papers have all been approved, so I should be in NJ by early summer. That will be a big, big change. I hope I like it there. :-(

Ran It Granite, Green Y Classic. This went much better today. I concentrated at the beginning so I wouldn't make another mistake. I did have a mistake at 3 when I hit the ditches to the west of the reentrant I wanted. I figured it out quickly. I felt better today, like I could breathe easier. The technical areas around 13 and 14 were challenging. We had the same last 5 controls as the men on Green X, so I finished the course with Tim Good, Sam Listwak and Van Anthony, which was a lot of fun.

Ran It Granite, Green Y, Middle. This started out horribly. I ended up with the worst split of everyone on Green Y on #1. My only defense was that I came running from setting up the finish, almost late to start, and was discombobulated and not concentrating from the start. After that, it went well, navigationally. I just couldn't breath because of my recent bout with bronchitis. And, it was very, very hilly.
I went for a short run in PWF today, and I felt better during this run than yesterday's. We'll see how I feel this evening. I felt like I was running my average speed, but my max heart rate was the highest it's been this year, so I guess my lungs were still not at top form.
It was a beautiful day today, absolutely stellar. Blue skies, sunshine, and just enough coolness in the air to make it good running weather. I saw some people on the trails, which is always nice. A couple of families with teenagers in tow who looked like they wanted to be anywhere else rather than on a hike with their parents. I know that look well.
I went for a short, easy run on the battlefield, just to test out my lungs and breathing capacity. Everything was fine on the run out, but after I turned around, I started coughing more and had to stop a few times to clear things out. I felt pretty weak and tired, but I was glad I got out.
This is all I could muster today. I've been so sick since last weekend, first with a cold that then turned in to bronchitis. I've spent the week doing my best imitation of a seal. I finally went to the doctor and got some really good medicine that seems to be doing the trick. Although, with my head and ears still pretty stuffy, the balancing parts of this yoga routine were a little more challenging than normal.
Hood Loop. Although my time was no faster than normal, I felt faster, so I'll take that. A chillier morning than the past few but still not cold. Interesting sight this morning was a Christmas tree in front of a house, waiting to be picked up by the trashmen. I wonder if it was just taken down.
Caitlin, Graham and I took the dogs for a walk in PWF and practiced using 30' leashes so they had more room to roam. I think they liked them since they could sniff at more things off-trail. We had to run a few sprints when the leashes got dropped and the dogs took off. But, they always came back. It was such a warm day.

I went back to Westmoreland today to collect the controls from last weekend. What a change in weather! It was in the 70s today, and it was hot. There were still patches of snow in the woods because this area really got hammered by the storm. There were many newly downed trees blocking the trails. I ran through my first spider web of the season, replete with a spider in it. I saw a salamander, and kept smelling something sweet, but couldn't see what it was from. There were no flowers out there, so maybe it was from a tree. A little weird. This loop was the controls from the advanced courses. My first loop, so I was running quite a bit, except on the steep uphills.

The second loop of control retrieval. Running a bit less. I had trouble with the one control that I had set out in the wrong reentrant. I thought I was going to the wrong reentrant again, but I think I ended up in the right reentrant. Then, I contoured along some deer tracks, but I headed out the wrong way. Finally, I got myself oriented and went right to the control. Something is definitely screwy with the map in that area.

Last loop, where I walked the entire way. I was tired.
