I spent 3 hours in the yard today, and really worked hard. I mowed the lawn, mainly just to mulch the leaves so I wouldn't have to rake them. My mower has been broken since the fall, and I just got it back, so I thought I'd give it a spin. It did feel a little strange mowing in March, but my lawn looks so much better. I also raked out all the beds, trimmed back all of the liriope, and raked up the downed willow and birch twigs/limbs in my yard. This all entailed multiple trips up my backyard hill to dump the yard waste on my new compost pile. The hardest task of the day was doing something with my old compost pile. I hadn't touched it in over a year, other than to dump more stuff on it, but this year I want to really use it and have it produce nice soil for my garden. So I spent about an hour breaking it up, trying to mix it up a little, and just generally tidying it up so I can transfer it to an "official" compost holder to make it easier to work with. I think I'll be feeling that in my arms and shoulders tomorrow.
