Skiing, X-C 1:40:00 [3]

Another beautiful day with sunshine, blue skies and mild temps, relatively speaking. I felt a little stronger on the hills today, so that was encouraging.

Skiing, X-C 2:10:00 [2]

What a beautiful day! The sun was shining, the sky was bright blue, and the snow was sparkling. I have to admit that even though I was out for over 2 hours, a bit of it was spent stopping to take pictures. Every turn was a postcard moment. It was still cold, but definitely not as cold as we were expecting. The bad news of the day is that it appears I have "infested" SF with whatever I had, which evidently was not food poisoning. So, I left him at home to rest while I went downtown to do some damage in the stores of Laramie. Such fun.

Skiing, X-C 1:20:00 [3]

It was a bitterly cold day, but thankfully no wind. The trails were beautiful after 7" of new snow. I feel sorry for kadley, who had do to 50 laps on a half km track of manmade snow. :-( The trees were covered in frost and I wish I had brought my camera for a picture worthy of an AP posting, but the battery was being recharged...maybe tomorrow. I went not much faster today, but skiied a little harder with many fewer stops. And then home to a hot shower (no, we still don't have to burn the furniture to heat the water) and off to a wonderful dinner of shrimp tacos at Altitude...which was surprisingly packed. I had a beer in honor of Don.

Skiing, X-C 2:08:00 [2]

Went a little longer today, but not tremendously faster. I did venture into some terra incognita for me. I bushwacked up part of the Summit Loop trail that isn't groomed. Then one trip around the lollipop, where I was followed by a stalker...at least, a stalker with very helpful technique tips. It was fun to go into new terrain. It was snowing the entire time, and by the time we were done, it was really coming down. Definitely the coldest skiing day since I've been here. Home for a toasty hot shower!

Skiing, X-C 1:30:00 [2]

I managed an easy trip out on the trails today. I was definitely feeling weak from yesterday, so took it slow and worked mostly on technique. The weather was beautiful today, and I soaked it all in as we are expecting another snowstorm starting tomorrow.

Note
(sick)

Nothing for me today. I think I ate something last night that laid me out for all of today. Not a pleasant feeling at all. Hopefully, I'll be up and around tomorrow.

Skiing, X-C 1:40:00 [2]

First time back on skis since last year. This first day went much better, though, than last year's first day. Although the first loop was quite comical, the subsequent loops went fairly well. I went about 10 minutes longer than I should have because on the way back, my arms began to feel like spaghetti, with no power in them. All in all, though, a wonderful way to spend Christmas 2006.

Note

A busy day since the kids and I celebrated our Christmas today. They are heading to their Dad's tomorrow and I'm heading out west. I had hoped to get out for a run because it was so warm (something I don't think I'll see for a while!), but it was not meant to be. Now I just have to get set for some good skiing days. Yay!

Running 27:53 [3]

Short run through the neighborhood in the pouring rain. The weather has been ridiculous. My spring bulbs are popping out and my evergreen candytuft is blooming!

Running 41:31 [3] 4.6 mi (9:02 / mi)

An early morning run in the very cold weather. Although, the sun was shining, so that was nice. I didn't feel as fast as yesterday, but it was still a good time.

Tuesday Dec 19, 2006 #

Running 35:41 [3] 4.0 mi (8:55 / mi)

A nice run through the neighborhood. I felt really great today, but not sure why. Maybe because I got a fair amount of sleep last night.

Cycling 1:00:00 [2]

I had grand plans for doing a long run today, but instead, I spent 5+ hours doing yard work. So, I opted for an evening trainer session while reading more of "Freakonomics." I really do love that book.

And who would have thought I'd be mowing my backyard in shorts and a t-shirt one week before Christmas? Talk about global warming. I also mulched all of the beds (with a truckload of mulch) and did some more weeding. And tomorrow, it's supposed to be even warmer, in the low 70s!

Running 42:26 [3] 4.6 mi (9:13 / mi)

A morning run through the neighborhood with Carol. It was a little chilly but not too bad. I felt a little slow today, but nothing hurt, which is always good.

Friday Dec 15, 2006 #

Running 24:03 [3]

Just a short run today in between calls.

Thursday Dec 14, 2006 #

Note

A full day of meetings starting at 8:00 am through a team dinner that ended at 10:00 pm made this into a rest day.

Wednesday Dec 13, 2006 #

Running 42:00 [3] 4.6 mi (9:08 / mi)

Ran the neighborhood loop in the rain. It felt good.

Cycling 1:00:00 [2]

A session on the trainer after a bit of a hectic day.

Core Conditioning 30:00 [1]

Just a little something today because my teeth hurt. I had the top set of my new braces put on today, and there is a bit of pain going on. My dentist was a little concerned with the shifting of my teeth, and he suggested I go this route or risk winding up being a snaggle-toothed old lady. So, I chose to do it now so Graham and I could go through it together. Now that's motherly devotion for you.

Orienteering race 59:09 [4] *** 5.26 km (11:15 / km) +240m 9:09 / km

Green course at McKeldin, MD, for the Mid-Atlantic Champs. I was going to run Red, but after a late start from home and longer than expected drive, I dropped down to Green to ensure I would be done and ready for the relay. I had some sloppy navigating in the beginning and my legs felt tired for the first few controls because I had absolutely zero warm-up. But, it got better and I enjoyed the course. No after effects at all from my ankle twisting earlier in the week. The course was definitely hillier than what the course notes intimated.

Orienteering race 23:54 [4] *** 2.73 km (8:45 / km)

Afternoon sprint relay. Each leg was 2.1-2.7 km, and I was on a team with my sons, Tanner (16) and Graham (14). Tanner led off and because he DNF'ed on his earlier course, I was a little worried. I told him to just stay with the pack...and he did! He came in much sooner than I had expected, so that was great! And he had a good time. I went out on the second leg and things went much better than my first course. I hit the controls cleanly and felt like I was moving quite well. Although, my legs did feel a little tired. I'm not sure how I came in, placement-wise. Graham was our anchor leg and really had a fantastic run. He went out at the same time as Greg Lennon (M45) from our club, and finished with him, too! He even outsprinted Greg into the finish. Even though we came in 4th, behind 3 DVOA teams (argh!), we were the first QOC team (helped a little by a handicap for being female and young...guess which one applies to me!). So, a very fine day.

Running 41:04 [3] 4.6 mi (8:56 / mi)

Went running with my neighbor again and averaged under 9:00 minute miles...yahoo!! It was freezing cold and my legs never did warm up. We saw a dead frozen salamander all curled up on the side of the road. The recent warm weather must have lured him out, only to be zapped by the cold.

Yoga 40:00 [1]

I wasn't feeling 100% yesterday, so taking it a little easy today.

Running (Trail) 44:21 [3]

Went for a trail run on a beautiful, warm afternoon. Everything was going well until I rolled my right ankle pretty badly. I hopped around for about 30 seconds and then continued to run. It's pretty sore after the run. I'll see what a little ice will do.

Tuesday Dec 5, 2006 #

Running 42:01 [3] 4.6 mi (9:08 / mi)

It was still pretty cold out this morning, but there was no wind, so it was tolerable. Other than the cold, it was a beautiful sunny morning. The sun was shining on Aquia Creek and the geese were heading south. I felt like I was just running at my normal pace, and maybe even a bit slower. But my final time shows I was actually cruising right along. Yea!

Core Conditioning 40:00 [2]

The deadly Hard Core Conditioning. Argh!

Monday Dec 4, 2006 #

Core Conditioning 45:00 [2]

Sorry, but there was no way I was going running this morning. I opened the door to sub-freezing temps and a stiff breeze blowing. No thank you!

Cycling 30:00 [2]

I wasn't going to ride tonight, I swear!, but a slightly stressful evening at home made me think I probably should. And I do feel better now. There's just something about those endorphins.

Sunday Dec 3, 2006 #

Running (Trail) 1:31:36 [3]

A long trail run. It was overcast today, but not extremely cold. I ran without a jacket but with gloves (mainly for the nose-wiping benefit!). I only fell twice, and those were more extreme stumbles than out-and-out falls. Everything felt fine, except my lower back is a little sore now.

Saturday Dec 2, 2006 #

Running 42:19 [3] 4.6 mi (9:12 / mi)

The usual run through the neighborhood (with a slight extension) with my neighbor, Carol. The storm that had been predicted never really materialized, and it was a beautiful morning. Now I'm off to the Norwegian bazaar in DC, hoping to find some ekte gjetost. Yum!
