Hiking 1:33:00 [3] 4.75 mi (19:35 / mi)

I'm finally back home, so I went for a hike in Jockey Hollow. I used my hiking poles today and felt more stable. I've also decided it's time to get a knee brace, so I'll call about that tomorrow.

It was unbelievably warm, and I was a bit overdressed, but it felt great to be outside.

Hiking 50:00 [3]

A pre-dinner hike in Prince William Park. It looks like there has been some sprucing up taking place, with paved park roads, a new side road to a lake, new signs, etc. All dolled up and still next to no one in the park. It was a great morning, though, and it was great to be back in the park.

Orienteering race 1:46:00 [3] 5.6 km (18:56 / km)

DVOA/QOC Mid-Atlantic Champs. Green course.

I was in DC for the weekend, so I decided to hit this meet on my way home. How convenient! Unfortunately, the happiness with this event ended as I was driving into the parking lot, when I began to notice how junky the woods were. And, indeed, they were very junky with lots of downed trees and branches, sticker bushes, rocks, and just thickness. Consequently, I was very slow and missed on #2, #6, and very slightly on #8.

It was a nice way to break up the drive and it was great to see my fellow QOCers, and that's about all of the nice things I can say about that!

Hiking 1:00:00 [2]

I finally got out for a hike in Jockey Hollow to survey the damage from the snow storm. Between the hurricane and the snow storm, the park is looking a little worse for wear. There were some areas that had about a 3' layer of downed branches and tree parts. It was nice to get out.

Note

We couldn't finish our pizza tonight and didn't want to bring it home with no power. But Graham boxed it up anyway and brought it to the town square where the homeless guys hang out. He gave the pizza to one of the men there, who was very grateful. And I was very proud. Sometimes kids surprise you, in a good way.
