Event: DVOA Batsto

2 PM

Running 43:33 [3] 4.0 mi (10:54 / mi)

I stopped at Gettysburg on my way to Virginia. It was a beautiful day, pretty chilly but with full sun. I ended up taking off my jacket, hat, and gloves, and stashing them behind a rock since I was doing an out and back.

I started at the old Cyclorama and ran to Little Roundtop and back. It was a perfect route, with some hills and some flats, but the wind coming back was pretty fierce. It's a little strange now that the old Visitor Center is completely gone, but the new one is amazing. So much nicer. I've always loved Gettysburg. I don't know why, but I always feel like I'm kind of coming back home when I go there.

This is the longest I've run since my surgery. Yay!

Running 35:07 [3] 3.08 mi (11:23 / mi)

Instead of driving to Jockey Hollow and running there, I ran from home towards Jockey Hollow. Plus, it was getting late, and the park "closes" at 5. This route didn't turn out as bad as I thought it would be. It's essentially down from my house, up a long, gradual road and then down again to the turn around and back up, down, up. If I were orienteering, it would be running down off a ridge in to a long reentrant. Up the the reentrant to the saddle and down the next reentrant. And back again.

I felt pretty good, although I had to walk two times on the hills, but just a few steps each to catch my breath. I think I'll ice my knee this time because it's been kind of sore.

Elliptical 30:00 [3]

My knee was a little sore, so I thought this might be a good alternative.

Running 38:13 [3] 3.5 mi (10:55 / mi)

I ran from the gym since it's a little less hilly there. This is the longest I've run since my operation. It was a little weird because I kept alternating between feeling like crap and feeling great. But, I managed to combine it all for a faster per/mile time, so I guess there was more goodness than crappiness.

Core Conditioning 30:00 [2]

I went right in to the Core class after running. It definitely made it more difficult, but being warmed up helped a little.

Strength Training 1:00:00 [3]

There was a new instructor for the Strictly Strength class, and she was the toughest one so far. Ouch!

Running (treadmill) 32:06 [3] 3.0 mi (10:42 / mi)

I went to the gym after work to run on the treadmill, and I felt great. My knee didn't hurt at the beginning, and I bettered my recent per mile times by almost a minute. I was very happy.

Running 34:55 [3] 3.0 mi (11:38 / mi)

Back to Jockey Hollow. A little colder than last time, but still a good run.

Running (treadmill) 33:33 [3] 3.0 mi (11:11 / mi)

Ran this on the treadmill after work. I wanted to make sure I could run 3 miles without walking due to hills. And I could! And it felt fine.

Running 34:58 [3] 3.0 mi (11:39 / mi)

I went to Jockey Hollow and ran the auto tour route. It was relatively snow-free but wickedly hilly. It didn't seem so hilly when I drove on it! But, it was a perfect loop, coming in at 2.8 miles. With a few loops around the parking lot, I get a nice 3-mile loop. So, now my goal will be to run *all* of the hills on the loop.

It was a beautiful day. Full on sunshine with cold temps. I guess this is my new "battlefield" run for New Jersey. Jockey Hollow vs. Fredericksburg.

Strength Training 1:00:00 [2]

Strictly Strength class.

Yoga 1:00:00 [2]

I took a Hatha yoga class at the gym. It was a lot of fun. Some of the moves I've never done before, so it was good to learn new things.

Running 28:50 [3] 2.5 mi (11:32 / mi)

Another run on a snowy road, but this time it was on a bike path near my house. It was bitterly cold this morning, getting ready for the incoming storm. I didn't think my fingers would ever warm up. This run felt ok, not great. It just showed me what a long road I have in front of me.

My knee felt tight, once again, for the first 10 minutes or so, and then it loosens up. The best part of the run was the sighting of a fox. I think foxes are pretty cool animals, except when they have rabies.

Running 23:06 [3] 2.0 mi (11:33 / mi)

A snowy fire road run in PWF. That's right...PWF!! I was in Stafford for my penultimate orthodontic appointment, and thought I'd stop by the park for a quick run. I hadn't counted on all of the snow on the ground since NJ was so snow-free, but I found some tire tracks on Blacktop Rd. and was able to not go through ankle-deep snow.

I've found that the front of my knee feels really tight for the first 10 minutes or so, so I'll have to make sure I have a good warm-up before any race.
