Hike the west glacier trail to Mendenhall glacier .

Hiking 5:01:07 [2] 7.76 mi (38:48 / mi) +1147m 26:36 / mi
Hike from downtown Juneau up the mt Roberts trail to Mt Gastineau before rapidly coming back down to the cable car station to avoid heavy rain with Lori Jane and Roger .
. Very nice views of the fiord plus Juneau and the surrounding mountains . A steep steady climb from sea level to 3700 feet. Had drinks in the cable car bar to get “free ride” down ( hikers had to show a receipt for $10 worth of spending per person in bar , grille or gift shop to get free down . Round trip was $35 ! So drinking $10 worth of beer saved $10 or more

Nice ridge up through scrubby pine forest with scattered trees and lots of blueberries . Open hillsides on the top with expansive views 50 miles in each direction .
