Swimming race (open water swim) 1:10:09 [4] 2.0 mi (35:04 / mi)

2016 Point to LaPointe swim with Lori and Gerry and Nan from WBL Y

Nice sunny morning with 10 - 12 mph W breeze . Water was 68 deg F . Got off to a good start and the chop didn't effect me at all this time so swam freestyle for all except for about 6 strokes . Sighted on the smoke all the way but like everybody else got carried about 1/4 mile S by strong current (N-S) along the island shore . Got 7th out of 24 in M60 to 64,, 195th out of 443 starters, 132nd of 239 males . Lori got 1:37:45 with 6th out of 11

Kayaking (Necky 14) 3:31:00 [3] 18.25 mi (11:34 / mi)

on the Kettle from hwy48 Hinckley to Snake River landing

Flow was 636 cfs at Sandstone and at 6'6" on the hwy 48 bridge, this was a very nice level with most rapids in good shape and some avoidance manoeuvering required for bigger partially hidden boulders in the boulder garden sections . A number of small sand bars were also visible and useful for stops.

Saw a lot of wildlife : several does with fawns done by river, 4 eagles and a group of 8 herons . River was quiet ; no one on river , only saw 2 group of people at the Maple Island landing and Snake River Landing, Mosquitoes were fierce at Snake River landing so didn't linger there .

All the recent rains/floods have moved a lot of sand about. Hwy 48 landing blacktop was covered in about 1' of sand up about 20' up hte ramp, Seven Islands seemed to have a lot more sand bars
