Orienteering race 14:34 [5]
WOC sprint relay - 1st leg. Started out controlled and good, but had some longer forkings and therefore I was a little bit behind at the arena passage. Continued ok the next 2 controls, but out of the 4th last control I made a parallel mistake thinking I was running one row of houses further up than what I really did. I suddenly found myself in the wrong street and did not see that it was aloud to climb the fence there (this is not fearly drawn -impossible to read while running and almost impossible to see sitting still the day after) and I have to run all the way around thos houses and loose as much as 25-30 sec to the teams I was with at the control before.....I tried to push hard to give Eskil the backs of the teams ahead. But unfortunatly he had to run his leg quite alone and also he had the longer forkings.
Øystein and Hausken on the other side got the shorter forkings and ran very well (4th and 3rd best leg time), and they climbed us from a 15-16th position up to 6th position in the finish. And when russia got disqualified do to a missing punsh we even climbed to the 5th position. So we got a diploma at least.
Disappointed that I did the big mistake on the last loop (should have listened to Hausken about taking the safe routes....), but the margins are always small in sprint and 1 sec loss of focus is enough to throw you out of the game. I tried my best, and we did get a 5th position which is good.
