Ran neck-and-neck with my ghost for the first mile, but then began to steadily pull away, ultimately beating him by fifteen seconds! Top 2% overall; top ten (actually eighth) age group out of 451. Still first all-time at the Y (out of sixty-six), now by thirty-two seconds. P:287; C:58.

My ghost kept nudging in front of me (once by a full second) before I put on a big push just after the halfway mark and opened up two to three seconds on him, ultimately "winning" by two seconds. Top 5% overall; top ten (actually tenth) age group, out of 348. Still first all-time at the Y (out of fifty-seven), now by ten seconds. P:266; C:54.

My ghost steadily opened up three seconds on me, but then tables turned. I passed him at the 2.5 mile mark and opened up four seconds before coasting to a three-second victory. Top 3% overall and age group. Still first all-time at the Y (out of seventy), now by fourteen seconds. P:266; C:58.

Catacombs course.

A PR was in the cards as it was my first time on the course! My real goal was to take the local 'season championship' by breaking 11:29. Since the course goes through a valley, ending on an uphill, it was tough to know if I was on pace or not until the last half mile or so. Top 5% overall and age group. I took the all-time record at the Y (out of five) by fourteen seconds. [Interestingly, there is no all-time list at the Y for this (new) ride; I had to combine the two seasonal lists to effectively create this ranking.] P:247; C:58.

Opened up a few seconds on my ghost, but he caught me near the top of the (first) hill. I pushed it back to a three-second gap and got it up to five seconds near the end before beating him by four. Top 5% overall; top ten (actually 8th) out of 387 age group. Still first all-time at the Y (out of fifty-five), now by nine seconds. P:260; C:59.

For the first time in almost a year, I got the "bad" bike and had to work my buns off just to get a poor (by time) workout in. Rode harder than yesterday, but my pace was worse even though the course was nearly absolutely flat. Logged my worst time ever on the course. Top 10% overall; top 15% age group - missed top 10% by five seconds. Still hold the all-time record at the Y (out of fifty-seven folks) by two seconds, but this ride would have been seventh. P:212; C:57.

Monkey Pass course

So, last week, I thought that I had only Basic rides to go to finish my yearly challenge. There are 14 such rides and my status said "14 to go". BUT, the new ride doesn't count and I was missing a longer one - that I had "skipped" around the time of my vacation. So...

Fell behind my ghost pretty early and wasn't even pacing well to the seasonal record at the Y (held by someone of about my caliber.) Was trailing by 13 seconds after 1.5 miles which wasn't going to make either goal. BUT, I kept pushing and began to reel him in (to my great surprise.) Caught him 0.5 miles before the top of the hill and opened up a lead that grew to ten seconds before it faded to eight. Top 10% overall and age group. Still second all-time at the Y (out of nineteen) but now by twelve seconds. P:236; C:57.
