Mendon Ponds Adventure Race

Ran with my daughter Sarah (age 14) who has previously (and not recently) only done White courses. Trail run section was fine and we headed to #1 as our first "off trail" experience. Woods were a bit thick, but we found it and headed to #2. Leaving #2 we got a bit wet, but she didn't care. She chose to go east to #3 and we took the under water swamp trail. At this point, she did say "no more going through swamps!" The rest of the O section went without incident other than the scramble into #7. The labryinth was more interesting...how to split when she had minimal nav skills. We walked to a point south of 17 and I ran to 13 and 14 while she went up the hill. Coming out of 14, I saw Barb Domine who told me that Sarah was at 17 and patiently waiting. We went to 18 and 20 and then she got 21 while I went to 16 and backtracked out. We did the same with 23 and 15 although she went out a bit oddly and made it most of the way to 15 before we reunited. We even ran most of the way in. Great race and she was a great partner. She didn't complain at all until the finish when she decided that she looked gross. Still, a wonderful father's day present a week early...
